So this time the CineTV contest prompt is: Who is your favourite actor/actress?
I've seen his name pass by here a few times already so I guess he's just a very good actor. This time it seems like we aren't supposed to mention more than just one actor, which is fine by me, but I still want to give my number 2 a mention, simply because I can haha. It's Keanu Reeves. I even named my eldest son after him!
Not quite because of him but because I really loved the name, and the name of my favourite not so much hehe.
Johnny Depp
In my opinion, he's just the guy that has it all: the looks, the talent, the wits. He can literally play any kind of role and be great at it.
From playing a singing serial killer in 'Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street', to a vampire in 'Dark Shadows', to a drunken pirate in Pirates of the Carribean. There isn't a role where he didn't do what he does best: be the star of the show!
Which movies with Johnny did I like best?
I said it above. He makes all his roles into a masterpiece. Every single one.
The role he played in 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' is one of his best performances in my opinion. This is also true for his character Gilbert Grape in 'What's eating Gilbert Grape?'. This movie and his acting (and that of Leonardo di Caprio) moved me to the core. I fell in love with both actors right there and then.
But it wasn't the first time I'd laid eyes on Johnny, as he was already quite famous for his short role in the very first 'Nightmare on Elmstreet' movie, as well as the series '21 Jump Street'.
And wow, he was such a good looking guy! But not just that! He could also act! Very rare in Hollywood.
Now, I can make a long list of all the Depp movies I loved because there are many. I'm pretty sure I've seen most of them. If not all.
But the movie, or movies, where he had the best role, in my opinion, is as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean.
Those movies just wouldn't have been the same without him. Period.
He even manages to get away with his quasi drunken English accent (which I'm identifying as a bit of cockney London accent mixed with pirate speech) without getting on my nerves. And I don't say that very often. In fact, he's not the worst at doing accents.
However, the role in which he moved me the most, was when he played 'Edward Scissorhands'. The movie in itself was a piece of art, if you ask me. But it was Johnny who made the movie into what it became: A Master Piece. He made us laugh, and then he made us cry, and you can't tell me that this movie left you without emotions after watching it.
It's not even my favorite movie! But Johnny's performance in it is absolutely one of the best I've ever seen him do. He plays the role with full conviction, and very convincingly. There was a time when I could only see Johnny Depp as Edward. How he portrayed Edward's purity and innocence, as well as moments of sadness and a sense of humour was just amazing, and touched me to the core.
Conclusion:
There are many good actors, and many great ones.
These days, new ones are emerging almost every day.
It is very hard to make a choice between all these amazing actors because there are many that I like and love. But in the end, a choice had to be made, and in my opinion, that can only be Johnny Depp.
