I was feeling bored this afternoon, contemplating what I should write this evening so I decided to watch a movie to clear my mind and this turned out to be a good idea.
I turned on my television and picked the first movie I was on Netflix--The Adam Project. I am not a big fan of action movies and I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but surprisingly it turned out to be a decent movie. I did connect with the theme of the movie and also the characters, which is usually for me when it comes to sci-fi movies.
The Adam Project is a 2022 SciFi movie with a time travel theme. It features A-listers Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo and Jenifer Garner. The movie was directed by Shawn Lecy and written by Jonathan Tropper, T.S Nowlin, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin.
PLOT
Adam Reed(Ryan Reynolds) finds himself in the year 2020–30years away from the future, after a failed rescue mission to change time. He encounters his 12-year old self and a past he had pushed to the abyss of his mind.
Adam is pursued into the past by Maya Sorian(Catherine Keener) who is the leader of the dystopian world in her bid to stop Adam from altering the timeline. New discoveries are made in 2020 leading Adam and his younger self on a new mission.
The Adam Project is your typical action/sci-fi movie with a lot of interesting fighting scenes. However, unlike most movies of this nature, there were believable and strong emotional scenes.
The concept of time travel is fascinating to me. It is chaotic to conceptualize but interesting nevertheless. I have always imagined what it would be like going back in time. Certainly, there are a few things I would want to change--if I could. Adam Reed, the main character of this movie had that opportunity and it was fun watching how things unfolded for him.
Speaking of main characters, Ryan Reynolds was his usual self--nothing thrilling about that to be honest. He has been typecast for as long as I can remember. It is almost impossible to portray a persona that is naturally yours. Nevertheless, he was still interesting to watch.
What did stand out for me in this movie was the younger version of Adam Reed played by Walker Scobell. I think he did a really good job. Watching a mini version of Reynolds was just funny. I would say he outperformed Reynolds at being Reynolds. If that makes sense.

✅ memorized the DEADPOOL 2 script when he was 11
✅ lost a tooth during his first movie scene

I really don't have anything bad to say about the movie. It's a sci-fi movie and my expectations were not high. I just wanted to have a good time and that I did. However, there were really strong emotional scenes that had me shedding a tear or two.
My favourite scene was between Louis Reed (Mark Ruffalo) and Adam Reds (both young and old) after the aftermath of the battle with Maya Sorian. The father-son moment was priceless and I did connect with that scene. I found myself wishing for a moment with my dad. I would probably do anything for that at this point.
I will rate the movie an 8/10. It would have been a 10/10 for me if the action scenes were more memorable. Is this movie worth your time? Certainly. If you want to have a good laugh then this movie is for you. There isn't much to criticize here. It is a decent movie.
You can watch The Adam Project on Netflix. Do revisit this post to share your thoughts on the movie. It will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
