Since no one ever tells me anything I had to find out by myself that there is a pretty good magic fantasy series that I have never watched.
Then again all good things in time and I did find this series after the second season has completed so binge-watching it was a bit more satisfying than waiting around.
Shadow and Bone
Is a show with the classic dark vs light plot. In this case, it is also quite literal. The main girly is the Sun summoner and the main baddie is - I think a Shadow summoner.
The trailer gives you most of those details so really no biggy.
What makes Shadow and Bone quite good is that the powers these people have aren't considered magic. Yet it sure looks like magic, but for the Grisha it is just a sort of science.
They merely have the ability to manipulate existing elements or traits like say healing bones or the ability to manipulate fire and water etc.
Although they rename things which can make it tricky to know what is meant the basic difference is the baddie who created a huge black cloud of doom separating the continent into two, that guy used magic.
Magic is clearly understood to be the creation of something instead of the manipulation, and the "Fold" as they call it is the epic reminder of the dangers of magic in their world.
the show teeters on the edge of trying to create too much politics with some of the plot and hopefully, Season 3 proves me wrong but at least for the first two seasons, there was a very good balance of conspiratorial drama vs getting on with it.
If they do pivot though I guess it is no biggy to leave it be since what the first two seasons did was also more than enough for me to have found it engaging with the end of Season 2 being enough for me to not really be bothered continuing if I sense that they are going the pretentious Game of Thrones route.
Ie have I mentioned today how horrible GOT is? Well it is trash and hopefully stops influencing shows with actual stories.
With Shadow and Bone though it is oddly not the main chicky that kept me watching, she is a bit bothersome like Harry Potter.
That little prick never once studied or did anything that took a lick of effort and always got his as saved by Hermoine or sheer luck.
Basically that is the lead in this show.
However the side characters, especially the band of misfit criminals and the things they get up to are worth holding a bitch slap back and watching.
All in all not bad and hoping they don't fuck it up as they go.
