When I read the premise of this contest, the film Hidden Figures of the year 2016, directed by Theodore Melfi and written by Melfi and Allison Schroeder, came to my mind, which has as its central premise the hard work of three African-American main characters to be respected and to able to obtain important positions in NASA, during an era dominated not only by racism, but also where the capacity of women in areas of science was minimized.
SourceCuando leí la premisa de este concurso, se me vino a la cabeza la película Talentos Ocultos del año 2016, dirigida por Theodore Melfi y escrita por Melfi y Allison Schroeder, la cual tiene como premisa central el arduo trabajo de las tres protagonistas afro-americanas de este filme para ser respetadas y lograr obtener puestos importantes en la NASA, en una época dominada no solo por el racismo, sino donde también la capacidad de las mujeres en áreas de ciencia era minimizada.
I remember having watched Hidden Figures with my wife and daughter, who really liked it, especially my daughter, as she was highly inspired by the stories of these extraordinary women, who had to be more than exceptional to be taken seriously. This is the type of movie that I like to watch with my daughter, since I would like her to always know how to get up every time she falls during her professional life.
Recuerdo haber visto Talentos Ocultos con mi esposa y mi hija, a quienes les gustó mucho, especialmente a mi hija, ya que se sintió altamente inspirada por las historias de estas extraordinarias mujeres, quienes debían ser más que excepcionales para ser tomadas enserio. Este es el tipo de película que me gusta ver con mi hija, ya que me gustaría que durante su vida profesional siempre sepa levantarse cada vez que se caiga.
Synopsis
The film tells the biography of three exceptional women who worked for NASA during the space race: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. All three worked at the Langley Research Center as mathematicians, where they were segregated by sex and race, which means that they were separated from men as well as white women. Throughout the film we experience all the difficulties that these women must go through to fulfill their dreams, despite having "the whole world against them" due to the times in which they had to live. This movie is based on the book Hidden Figures Margot Lee Shetterly.
Katherine Johnson managed to calculate the flight paths of Project Mercury and Apollo 11, while Mary became NASA's first African-American engineer and Dorothy the first African-American supervisor.
La película cuenta la biografía de tres mujeres excepcionales quienes trabajaron para la NASA durante la carrera espacial: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan y Mary Jackson. Las tres trabajaban en el Centro de Investigación Langley como calculistas, siendo que eran segregadas por sexo y raza, por lo que eran separadas de los hombres y otras mujeres blancas. Conclusion
Hidden Figures is full of great performances as well as excellent cinematography, having multiple iconic moments, the most famous being the scene in which Katherine has to run great distances (half a mile) to go to the bathroom, since she was not allowed to go to the "white bathroom".
Hard work involves much more than spending multiple hours without sleep to achieve what you want, but it is also about having the emotional intelligence to not let external difficulties stop you from achieving your dreams, even when it seems that the world is against you.
Talentos Ocultos está llena de grandes actuaciones además de contar con una excelente cinematografía, teniendo múltiples momentos icónicos, siendo el más reconocido el hecho de que Katherine tiene que correr grandes distancias para ir al baño, ya que no se le permite ir al baño de blancos.
El trabajo duro implica mucho más que pasar múltiples horas sin dormir para lograr lo que deseas, sino que también es acerca de tener la inteligencia emocional para no dejar que las dificultades externas te detenga de lograr tus sueños, incluso aunque parezca que el mundo está en tu contra.
The title of this film is Hidden Figures, as the names of these women have rarely been remembered despite all their contributions during the space age. I like to think that even if the world doesn't want to recognize your talent, there comes a point where you're so exceptional that it's impossible to continue ignoring you.
I highly recommend this inspiring film, full of scenes filled with happiness, sadness and about the lives of extraordinary women.
El título de esta película es Talentos Ocultos, ya que los nombres de estas mujeres han sido rara vez recordados a pesar de todas sus contribuciones durante la era espacial. Me gusta pensar que incluso aunque el mundo no quiera reconocer tu talento, llega un punto en el que eres tan excepcional que es imposible seguir ignorándote.
Recomiendo ampliamente esta inspiradora película, llena de momentos de felicidad, tristeza y sobre la vida de mujeres extraordinarias.
