Super Sharanya is a Malayalam movie that was released a few months ago in the theaters and is now available for viewing on Zee5.
It is a story of a girl who hails from a village in Kerala. She joins the electronics engineering batch in an engineering college in another city. The story revolves around her transforming from a simpleton to a brave woman.
The fun fact is that the story is not based on a real-life one but showcases the real-life mistakes that many of us make, in a funny manner. So, it is a movie that is very feel-good and entertaining to watch. One you can do so by sitting back and enjoying watching with snacks.
Hostel life in the movies usually showcases boys' hostel but this movie has taken a bold move to portray girls. The story begins with how the girls are treated badly by the seniors. Sharanya unwittingly attracts the opposite sex and even the lecturer falls for her. She is not however impressed and tries to avoid the advances of the Romeos.
Sharanya is attracted to a man whom she meets while traveling to her friend's place. The two connect and even though her roommate advises her against it, she is not bothered. How they manage to avoid the others and end up together forms the rest of the story and also shows how Sharanya finally speaks up for herself and does not listen to the others around her.
The co-actors especially Mamitha and Arjun do a good job and so does Sharanya who is played by Anaswara Rajan who began her career as a child actor.
The Malayalam movie industry is a class apart and as always tries new experiments with the storyline unlike other languages excluding Marathi and Bengali. Some of the other language industries like Telugu and Tamil are always about masala, violence, macho shows and body shows with little or no space for the female actors. The female actors have no say in the movies other than to show off their half-exposed bodies through the 'item songs' and such. It is all about getting back the money invested and not really about classy stories.
Bollywood is also the same as the south industry but it was not like that before. There were great actors who made the Indian film industry one of the best. I am not citing names because not many would even know about them.
If you ever get the chance to watch classic movies like 'Khoshish', please do. There are many actors even now like Anupam Kher who have not been given great roles but I guess they just gave up the struggle and act whatever part they are given. The struggling artist concept is unwise, I presume.
Hope you get to see this movie and if you like a rom-com, you will surely enjoy it. I am sure there are subtitles even if you do not understand the language.
Super Sharanya is a simple movie with no claims or huge star cast but it is one with a good storyline, good acting, and message. It also shows the life of a normal girl from our state who is shy and often misses the opportunities that life has to offer.
