Sweet Tooth got better and better!
First of all, I should say that before watching this show I had no idea it was based on a comic book so I have no idea how they compare and my opinion is based purely on the TV show.
The plot, in a nutshell, is the classic dystopian setting: the world as we know it has been hit hard by an unstoppable force that caused the end of the standard organized society.
In this case, this force is a deadly virus that spread very quickly and killed many people (ring any bells?). However, along with the virus, another strange thing came along: babies started to be born as human-animal hybrids. It is unclear whether the virus brought the hybrids or it was the other way around, but those events seem to be somewhat linked.
Right at the start of this catastrophe, a father takes his kid to an isolated mountain in the Yellowstone National Park where they spend some years by themselves. The kid ends up becoming Sweet Tooth and the story follows his adventures and also his journey to discover more about his past, his present, and, perhaps, his future, but I will spoil no more of the story.
I will say though that this is somewhat different than the other dystopian shows. This is, in my opinion, a much-needed breath of fresh air in a format that was completely overused and disgraced by the likes of The Walking Dead. I don't know how much is a merit of the writers and how much is a pure acting skill but Sweet Tooth, the character, is just wonderful!
Since he was raised in complete isolation for his whole life, he is much more innocent than a regular kid and that is a huge selling point for the show, in my opinion. Add some very good support characters to that mix and you got yourself a very nice show! I'm really looking forward to season 2!
Oh, and as a music fanatic I cannot wrap this up without commenting on the outstanding soundtrack of the show! The landscape is also breathtaking and the association of those two things often gave me some "Into the Wild Vibes"!
Totally recommended!
