Demon and Nana - IMDB
I quickly decided to feature Nana from the movie Snow Dogs (2002). Nana is an obvious choice for me, and with this in mind, my Bonnie Bride and I sat down to watch this wonderful movie again. Most of the dogs in this film are Huskies, and at the time of its release I had two Siberian Huskies in my household (Katya and Tasha). However, Nana, a Border Collie, has more screen time than the lead Husky, Demon. Also, watching this film reminded both of us of our Border Collie, Daisy, whom we lost in early 2020.
Our Daisy back in 2013
While most of the dogs are sled dogs, Nana is the exception as she was Lucy’s (Ted’s late natural mother), and now Ted’s (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) B-triple-F (Best Furry Friend Forever). She is playful, caring, and wants to please her people...just like our Daisy.

As Ted learns about the dogs and sledding, and discovers innovative ways to get the Huskies to work together for him, he takes Nana on a sledding cruise with him. Of course, this being a comedy, you know that despite Ted’s best efforts, it ends disastrously for him, but not for Nana.
The DVD we have included several short documentaries on the making of Snow Dogs, and showed a bit where one of the two dogs (Fly and Dash) portraying Nana would play volleyball with her trainer.
At one point in the story, after a date on the hill with Barb (Joanna Bacalso), Ted wakes up in his bed, rolls over, and asks the question “How did you sleep?” As the camera pulls back, we see Nana is in bed with him and gives him kissy face, licking his cheek. Yep, good puppy! (My Huskies always slept on the bed with me until I got married. Poor Daisy, never got to sleep on the bed.)

Also of note, Snow Dogs also starred Nichelle Nichols as Amelia Brooks as Ted’s Mom, who with her husband adopted Ted, and never found the right opportunity to tell Ted he was adopted, and James Coburn, in one of hist last performances, as Thunder Jack Johnson, Ted’s natural father. The name Thunder Jack is such a cool name, I have been using it ever since in gaming, and now as a nom de plume blogging on the Hive blockchain.
As I said, Nana in this film brings out fond memories of our beloved Border Collie, Daisy, and proves that not all sled dogs have to be Huskies, and even Nana can be a lead dog on a sled team.
