I finally got to watch Gemini Man after a long time coming and let's say I'm a bit biased because, well, it's Will Smith and I'm such a fan.
And...what's better than one Will Smith? Two Will Smiths. Yes, you get to see another Will Smith in twos and a fan girl like me was really excited.
Will Smith plays Henry, a hitman who works for an intelligence agency, unarguably the best there is. He's however done with the assassin life and seeks to retire but he's got a mirror image of his younger self trying to kill him.
The Plot
Henry visits an old friend on his boat where he discovers his last job to kill a supposed bio-terrorist was against everything he stood for. The man happened to be innocent which got Henry furious at the agency for making him take out an innocent man.
The agency director then employs a couple of their assasins to kill Henry after this discovery. Henry, together with his friend Baron and Danny, one of the DIA agents, fight off these assasins in a long trail. Eventually, a top assasin is sent to finish off Henry and during their shoot-out, Henry realizes the assassin has a striking resemblance to him.
Not only did he look like a younger clone of Henry, he moved and fought like him. A DNA test later confirmed that Junior the assasin was indeed a clone of Henry made by Clay Varis, the head of the private military unit GEMINI.
Junior a clone of Henry was built to have all of the abilities of Henry but without the feelings and emotions Henry possessed. Junior had to be convinced he was a clone and together they tried shutting down project GEMINI.
My Review
You already know I have biased views about this movie because I love the lead actor. Even more so because the younger version of Henry reminded me of Will from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, one of my favorite shows in the world.
The catch is Junior was a CGI character and I didn't realise this while watching the movie. I had thought Will Smith's face was only made to look younger with some computer effects and a stunt double was used also.
I was totally wrong because Will says in this article that the clone character wasn't him but CGI generated. That's quite impressive and steals the show for me.
The storyline was meh, nothing new really but the fight scenes were pretty dope. For the CGI effect, I'll rate this a 7. Other than that, maybe it was a little bit too hyped, but a good movie anyway.
