There are movies known as buddy movies that star mismatched partners and their combo has a funny appeal. 'I Love You, Man' is one of such movies. Paul Rudd might play the calm headed one but Jason Segel is a perfect fit to bring out his crazy.
This movie took me right to the late 2000s, a buddy movie era and it's still as funny as the first time I saw it. It also has a relatable plot and some crazy going on because well, it's Jason Segel. Prior to this movie made in 2009, this duo had been in two other buddy movies (Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up). They're obviously good buddies.
Paul Rudd plays Peter, a guy who just got engaged to his sweetheart and then realizes he had no best man for his wedding. This was due to the fact that he had no male friends and always had a hard time making one.
After several failed attempts to make guy friends, Peter gets lucky at an open house sale where he meets Sidney (Jason Segel), a very chill guy. They get talking and build a bromance that has Peter's girlfriend, Zooey, impressed but not for long. She starts feeling left out when the guys hung out every time.
Their relationship hits the rock when Peter asks Zooey why they were getting married as he had no answer to the same question Sidney had earlier asked him. Peter also discovered Sidney had supposedly wasted money he loaned him and breaks up with Sidney.
He makes up with Zooey and they go ahead with their wedding plans but Peter is clearly sad about his friendship breakup and is surprised when Sidney shows up at his wedding as his best man thanks to Zooey.
My Rating
I'd rate this a 7.5. It was funny and the bromance, admirable.
