The New Forest covers South West Hampshire and South East Wiltshire. It has accessible walks from suitable for all to the more difficult. We chose quite an easy walk today. It was a bit windy and cold so we didn't fancy going too far.
All of the ponies, horses and cattle found in the forest can roam freely but are owned by New Forest Commoners. The commoners have the right to graze their animals in the forest throughout the year. They've just introduced some pigs to help eat all the acorns. There's been quite an abundance this year. Sadly, no sign of any pigs today.
We didn't get too close to the ponies etc as we had the dog with us. He's very good around them but we didn't want to risk him getting kicked.
