We went back to Bole Hill Millstone Quarry to try and find the 'millstone graveyard' there. We'd spotted a few before, but looking at pictures online, there's a lot more.
Years ago, the quarry provided stone for the Derwent Valley Reservoirs, at Howden and Derwent.
Most of the millstones in the county come from the 18th and 19th Century and mostly used for grinding grains into flour. When the industry died off the millstones were just abandoned.
Some are stacked together but there's the random one on its own. I like the moss covered ones the best.
We did spot a few more but it might be better to return in the winter when there's less bracken about.
