La memoria es un proceso mental en donde el individuo busca en su cerebro una información de algo aprendido, fijado y guardado para poder incluir nueva información y ampliar la ya existente que pueda perdurar a largo plazo. El juego de memoria surge entonces para aplicarlos a individuos que requieran fortalecer esta área del desarrollo cognoscitivo, que le permitan desarrollar la capacidad de aprender con mayor facilidad, todo aquello que lo desarrolle integralmente como individuo.
Memory is a mental process where the individual searches in his brain for information of something learned, fixed and stored in order to include new information and expand the existing one that can last in the long term. The memory game arises then to apply them to individuals who need to strengthen this area of cognitive development, allowing them to develop the ability to learn more easily, everything that develops them integrally as an individual.

En el proceso educativo es muy importante que el educando tenga una excelente capacidad para memorizar, pues de esta forma estará fijando aprendizajes que más adelante en la medida que avance en su nivel educativo tendrá que recordar, para incorporar a esta información los nuevos y continuar. Por ejemplo el niño que aprende las vocales a los tres años y continua luego con el abecedario en donde las primeras letras del alfabeto que reconocerán serán las vocales por su conocimiento previo debido a que ya fue fijada esta información y por ende memorizada, sin embargo suele encontrarse individuos que tienen o presentan alguna dificultad para memorizar, por lo que el juego de memoria se convierte en un recurso importante para desarrollar esta capacidad intelectual.
In the educational process it is very important that the learner has an excellent ability to memorize, because in this way he will be setting learning that later on as he advances in his educational level he will have to remember, to incorporate to this information the new ones and continue. A través de la memoria podemos fijar no solo conocimientos, habilidades y destrezas intelectuales, sino también se puede desarrollar memoria muscular que permite a los individuos con algún evento traumático, ya sea por accidente o enfermedad volver a mover su cuerpo, el cual se encontraba prácticamente inerte. Es por esta razón que los juegos de memoria sean convertido en un recurso didáctico, para lograr desarrollar y mejorar esta capacidad en el individuo que lo requiere.
Through memory we can fix not only knowledge, abilities and intellectual skills, but we can also develop muscle memory that allows individuals with a traumatic event, either by accident or disease to move their body again, which was practically inert. It is for this reason that memory games have become a didactic resource to develop and improve this capacity in the individual who requires it.

Desde muy pequeños a los individuos se les permite manipular juegos de memoria y con frecuencia tienen mayor contacto cuando inician su educación formal o están en edad preescolar, porque a esta edad se esta construyendo este sistema complejo que se llama aprendizaje y que se mide con el nivel de conocimiento e inteligencia.

Este tipo de juego o recurso están elaborados mayormente con cartón resistente, pero también lo podemos encontrar elaborados en madera y materiales de provecho
