Hey kids! Do you want to go on an adventure?
Let's explore the outdoors and go treasure hunting!
Grab yer maps and flashlights. There are lots of clues find and riddles to solve, until finally, you shall unearth the treasure.
You got to be quick. A lot of other hunters are out there. Be smart and resourceful too!
The Abu Dhabi Neon Book Hunt
Let us explore the Um Al Emarat (Mushrif Park) and find over 1,000 books hidden within.
It's not for the weak, for the park is huge and clues are scattered all over. So start stretching those legs, shake those arms and begin!
Do you have your map yet? Each map will show you where you can possibly find the tokens. Each Explorer needs to find four tokens to be able to get the prize.
Spot the "book icon" on the map!
Did you see it?
Now, try to go to that location, you will see a neon light beaming from there. That should be your marker.
Behold, you found your first clue!
"On the other side, there I hide."
What does that mean?
Ooppps! Try again, your token is on the other side!
Don't despair, some clues are easy to solve...
But others are quite tricky.
Take a moment to think and analyze and you will be rewarded.
Yey! A token. Now, time to find the other three!
A Fun Filled Homeschool Exercise
The Neon Book Hunt was a month-long activity at the Um Al Emarat Park, which ran from October 20 to November 20, 2019. Here, kids and adults alike had the chance to wear their explorer-hats and go "hunting".
Upon collecting all four tokens, a child can get a book for himself. The books were kindly donated be several institutions in Abu Dhabi, like the Department of Culture and Tourism, the Louvre, etc.
The activity is a cover-it-all in our homeschool -- Geography (maps), Language Arts (riddles and clues), Math (some clues include distances) and of course PE (the park is huge, lots of walking and running).
I've recently found myself browsing through some not-so-old photographs which I have not yet shared/blogged about yet. This post is the second in what may be a series of posts. Check out the first post here:
Until next time!
