Condition of educational institutions in Aceh Tamiang, Indonesia, after being hit by floods.
The Acting Head of the Aceh Islamic Boarding School Education Office, Muhsin, SPd.I, MPd.I, reported on the latest developments in Islamic boarding school education following the flood disaster to the Governor of Aceh, H. Muzakir Manaf, in Jakarta.
Islamic boarding schools are one of the non-formal educational institutions in Aceh and Indonesia. However, in Aceh, they have received increased attention from the local government.
Muhsin stated that, in general, Islamic boarding school activities in Aceh are starting to resume. Most Islamic boarding schools have resumed teaching and learning, as students return to their respective educational environments after being affected by the floods.
However, he revealed that the recovery is not yet fully complete. A number of students are still unable to return to their Islamic boarding schools because they were direct victims of the floods and remain at home with their families. This situation is exacerbated by the damage to property, including books and learning equipment that were submerged in water.
"Many Islamic boarding school students have lost their books and boarding school supplies. They currently don't have the means to repurchase these necessities," said Muhsin when meeting with Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
He added that Islamic boarding schools need urgent support in the form of books, mattresses, cupboards, beds, and other basic equipment so that educational activities can continue normally.
According to Muhsin, the sustainability of Islamic boarding school education after the disaster involves not only the teaching and learning process, but also the overall recovery of the students' lives within the Islamic boarding school environment.
In response to the report, Governor Muzakir Manaf stated the Aceh Government's commitment to preparing concrete steps to support the recovery of Islamic boarding school education. The government, he said, will seek the best solution so that students can return to learning properly and comfortably.
"Dayah education is an important part of Aceh's identity and Islamic education. The Aceh government is obligated to ensure its continuity, including in post-disaster situations," said Mualem.
The Aceh government emphasized that efforts to restore Islamic boarding school education will be part of the overall post-disaster recovery agenda, with the hope that educational activities can return to normal and public trust in the continuity of education will be maintained.[]
