The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class I Meteorology Station in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, has predicted that several areas in Aceh will potentially experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days. This weather condition is expected to last from May 14 to 16, 2026, and may be accompanied by strong winds.
Forecaster on Duty in Banda Aceh, Angga Dirta, stated that the potential for extreme weather is influenced by the activity of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), which is still active in the Aceh region.
"The MJO is still in phase 3 and is still spatially active in the Aceh region. Furthermore, wind gyrations, convergence, and warm sea surface temperatures in the waters off western and eastern Aceh contribute to the formation of water vapor," said Angga Dirta on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
He explained that these atmospheric conditions support the growth of rain clouds in various regions of Aceh in the coming days.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) noted that on May 14, 2026, moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted for Aceh Besar, West Aceh, Southwest Aceh, Aceh Jaya, South Aceh, East Aceh, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues, and Pidie.
Then, on May 15, areas predicted to be affected include West Aceh, East Aceh, North Aceh, Bener Meriah, Sabang, and Pidie.
Meanwhile, on May 16, the potential for heavy rainfall is predicted to continue in Aceh Besar, West Aceh, Southwest Aceh, and Pidie.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to increase their vigilance for the possibility of sudden severe weather, especially in the afternoon and evening.
"The public is advised to be alert for moderate to heavy rain that may be accompanied by strong winds, as well as the potential for flooding and landslides," said Angga.
In addition to the weather warning, the BMKG also detected a hotspot in Aceh based on satellite monitoring on May 13, 2026. The hotspot was observed in Rantau Selamat District, East Aceh Regency, with a moderate confidence level.[]
