Hello there. In this short education post, I talk about how there are times you have to explain certain concepts again to students as a teacher, tutor or coach.
It's Hard To Get It All Right The First Time
When it comes to some topics it is not easy to get it right the first time around. If the topics being explained are technical, long or even abstract in nature, expecting people (students) to understand it the first time around is not realistic. With this in mind, things would need to be re-explained.
Explaining Concepts Again But With Variation
When it comes to explaining concepts again, it is a good idea to explaing them in a different way. Doing the same thing again and again without desired results is bad. (That is the definition of insanity.) Some different ways of re-explaining things include:
- Adding diagrams and visual aids.
- Using different words.
- Speaking slowly, clearly with a higher volume.
- Providing examples.
- Educational tools / kits.
You have to mix it up sometimes in the teaching until you get it right. Do keep in mind that there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to teaching/tutoring/coaching. Everyone is different and different students would require different solutions to help them learn.
Patience Is A Virtue
Sometimes you never really know how long it takes for students to understand concepts. It can be fast, it can take a few minutes, ten minutes, hours, days or unfortunately never. Regardless of how long it takes, educators should consistently exercise patience as students are learning. Showing frustration, anger or disappointment can discourage students and make them feel inadequate. Being patient is much easier said than done.
