Today is a very special day, as we all know already it’s the 14th day of the month of February and usually it has been globally recognised and celebrated as Valentine’s Day, a day when we take out some time to appreciate our lovers in our lives and generally to celebrate people that are in love. So with that being said I wish you all a happy Valentine’s Day!
Well while drafting my timetable I skipped that today would be valentines and I already planned to teach you all about a special word that deeply reflects the French culture.
That brings us to “Bonjour”. All my life I have always thought Bonjour meat morning or just morning, but years later I came to a realisation that Bonjour is not even a time based or seasonal word. There’s so much more!
It is one of the first words you hear when learning French and it is one of the most important words actually. Good thing It is easy to pronounce, Bon jour. The N is soft and the R at the end comes from the throat not the tongue so it sounds bon jhurrrr.
BON means good
JOUR means day
So when you say Bonjour you are literally wishing someone a good day
But beyond translation, Bonjour is cultural. When you are in In France you do not enter a shop and begin speaking without saying Bonjour, first It is considered impolite the French appreciates greeting before request and acknowledgement before making a request. We even say Bonjour at night, midnight just whenever. It has no limit.

Bonjour!
