Good day my fellow hive bloggers, I hope you all are having a wonderful day towards the time of you reading this blog, I really hope that this write up will be of Significance by the time you are done reading this blog.
Being a teacher as we all know is one of the hardest task and profession in the world. Teaching in the elementary school on the other hand is more stressful, time consuming, frustrating for any teacher, but being a trained professional teacher, sacrificing my time, making learning fun, and also learning to appreciate the beauty of children is one of the joy I have found in teaching.
Outside the classroom, this Children are usually very energetic and hyper active and sometimes get bored of the regular and continuous learning of academic activities in the classroom. Each week, we as teachers decided to pick out a day or two during the week to engage this children in outdoors and Co curricula activities within the context of the curriculum which will still develop these children cognitive, psychomotor and affective domain of learning.
Activities like catch, follow the leader, paper design, collage making, science fun experiments etc. are some of the activities I engage this children in so that they can have a feel of what fun is like in learning.
I have gotten feedback from parents, colleagues and proprietor about the advantages that they witness coming from these fun and games in the lives of these children. Some of them are listed below;
- It Improves team work amongst the children
- They show interest in looking forward to coming to school the next day
- Children with low self esteem socialize better and express themselves
- Children with low performances in the classroom, has opportunity to do better outside the classroom in such activities
- Children pick interest in new activities which can result to the children discovering unique talents at an early age.
This mentioned advantages are the most visible and common advantages of this activities and few of the feedback I got.
Example and explanation of some of those activities are;
Paper collage
Paper collage is a unique paper design that requires Little materials. Materials needed are sugar paper, scissors, plain white paper, pencil, top gum.
We will first cut the sugar paper to very tiny little pieces, when this is done the child will draw an object or image of their favorite characters or animals on the plain white paper. After this is done the child will
use a palette to spread the top gum on the drawn image with proper supervision from me so had they will not spread it all over their hands and body.
After that they gently lay the already cut out tiny sugar paper of different colors on the gum part of the paper carefully, when this is fine they dry it under the sun for 15 minutes so it can dry, then the paper collage is ready.
Other art Design or work are leaf paintings with poster colors, paper slippers, sugar paper cutting, drawing of object.
All theses are practical ways we can engage our students outside the classroom. I know some of my readers are parents or guardians who run out of ideas of what to do when babysitting or watching over young children, this are some activities which they will show interest in and make them express their feelings and thought while still in the process of learning.
