Children growing up in supportive, stable homes are more likely to have access to quality education, the resources for learning, and the encouragement needed to succeed academically. In contrast, those experiencing housing instability often face disruptions in their education, which can lead to a cycle of poverty. This indicates that "Shelter and support" are fundamental to human development, and the presence or absence of these elements can significantly shape a person's life trajectory. To highlight this important phenomenon Sanskrit says ;
आश्रयवशेन सततं गुरुता लघुता च जायते पुंसाम् |
विन्ध्ये विन्ध्यसमाना करिणे वत दर्पणे लघवः ||
Aashryavashena satatam gurutaa laghutaa cha jaayate pumsaam.
Vindhye vindhyasamaanaa karine vat darpane laghavah.
Aashryavashena = aashrya + vashena.
Aashrya = support, shelter.
Vashena = due to.
Satatam = constantly, continuously.
Gurutaa = majesty, greatness.
Laghutaa = smallness, insignificance.
Cha = and.
Jaayate = happens.
Pumsaam = men.
Vindhye = the name of a mountain range in central India.
Vindhyasamaana = majestic like the Vindhya mountain.
Karine = on hands.
Vat = like.
Darpane = a mirror.
Laghavh = small.
i.e. People become great or insignificant according to the kind of shelter (help and protection) they receive. For example, when the Vindhya mountain is in front of us, it appears huge, but if its reflection is seen in a mirror held in hand, it appears very small.
This indicates that when we see the reflection with the support of a mirror, the grandeur mountain looks too small. While the human spirit can show remarkable resilience in the face of adversity, shelter and support provide the essential foundation upon which greatness can be built. They free individuals from the constant struggle for survival and provide the resources and psychological security needed to pursue one's full potential.
