For teachers it is essential that the teaching and learning processes that we develop with the students allow us a progressive advance in the dimension of knowledge so that they can discover and understand better and better the variety and complexity of the world that surrounds them. as well as promoting intellectual curiosity and in turn stimulating their critical sense and autonomy in what they are learning. This supposes a vindication of knowledge and knowledge which will guide them to one of the essential key to learning, which is learning to learn
As teachers we must guide our students to develop the most effective learning techniques to discover learning to learn in a more real and positive way.
It should be noted that our role will always be that of counselor or facilitator and it is in this space where we teachers are obliged to promote in our students tools that really favor their true role, which is to learn meaningful situations that certainly focus them on learning to learn by themselves
Currently it is an fact that the work tools in the classroom have totally changed due to the tireless search of teachers to find the way that students can learn by themselves and because of this we implement meaningful tools where they can generate their learning and learn to learn in ways that develop their autonomous learning.
Learning to learn means that students commit to building their knowledge from their previous learnings and life experiences in order to reuse and apply knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts: at home, at work, in education and The instruction.
In the research on the subject I found this vignette that i loved which I use to exemplify learning to learn and and so you can you can understand in a simpler way about how this process can be achieved
If you look closely at the vignette you will see that one of the men is working hard, however this does not mean that he cuts the tree quickly while the other is working intelligently, using an efficient tool.
Which one do you think is closer to achieving the results?
When we apply this process to our students, we must know that as in learning, as in almost everything in life, the same thing happens as with the men in the cartoon: you have to be smart and find the best tool that improves and accelerates results
In this sense, when results are accelerated, we promote autonomous learning and information is transformed into self-knowledge.
In this way, it is necessary to use the best options in the students in order to promote learning to learn as an essential learning tool in this process.
¿What is autonomous learning?
Autonomous Learning
The term learning refers to a process subject to factors that we carry out on a daily basis that go far beyond the academic-school environment is the relationship between person and environment, which involves lived experiences and external factors.
(Wikipedia)
Various authors, over time, have referred to it through terms such as self-learning, self-directed study, self-regulated learning, independent study, among others. Although the concept is not new, today it has become relevant due to the context in which we find ourselves, where open access to information is used in learning environments to generate knowledge.
At present autonomy has gained strength through education at all levels and currently when we have been forced to fully develop distance education via online we feel more the need to promote autonomous learning in our students. In view of this, some authors have considered that people must be trained very early so that they can face life.
Among them, Confucius Socrates Kant insisted that knowledge is acquired from within capable of fending for itself. Likewise, Freire and Piaget supported the need to build reflective, constructive and critical knowledge to face autonomy as an essential study technique in the learning process of students.
Finally I want to highlight some strategies and techniques to learn to learn and develop autonomous learning in our students that will be of support to all of us who wish to adapt a deep and not superficial learning.
1.- A good diagnosis must be made in our students in order to be able to plan and design the appropriate and efficient activities to favor their progress.
2.- use conscious and intentional mental strategies that govern the determined actions to acquire a certain learning
such as: concept maps, radiant thought diagrams, analogies, making inferences, paraphrasing and content analysis among others.
3.- Frequently use some study techniques that allow students to make important decisions about their own learning such as: previous global reading to identify main and secondary ideas, underlining to highlight more relevant information, consult dictionaries or encyclopedias to enrich their lexicon and expand your knowledge among others.
4.- It is important to encourage the practice of thinking aloud to develop metacognitive skills in them
5.- Encourage and promote self-evaluation to develop reflection since this facilitates the exercise of skills and ways of processing information so that holistic learning can be achieved.
6.- Provide feedback which will help them solve problems and learn to solve adverse situations that life will present.
