Hello teachers, students, and researchers, I am here again today, Monday, 27th April, 2020, to share a guide on how to engage other teachers and students in collaborative teaching and learning. This is a special submission in line with the #POSH initiativge which is aimed at strengthening the cords of communities and users of the hive ecosystem. moreover, how this initiative would benefit the education-hive community would be discussed.
Collaborative learning
Collaborative learning is such that supports the tenet of the poverb that "two heads are better than one". Collaborative learning is a situation in which two or more people learn or attempt to learn something together. It can be coordinated at the instance of the teacher and that of the learner. This is because the teacher first is a student before he becomes a teacher.
Collaborative learning allows people to maximize the knowledge resource and skills of another such that it could boost his residual knowledge and skills. It may forms such as:
- asking one another for information,
- evaluating one another's ideas, and
- monitoring one another's work.
Collaborative learning can occur peer-to-peer or in larger groups. At the peer level, learners are facilitated to address misunderstandings and clarifying misconceptions amongst each other. Moreover, this can be adopted for larger groups of learners or scholars. This occurs where the members of the groups are allowed to synergize, one with another to pull knowledge together to a more constructive and concise summary. Steps towards a successful collaborative learning may include:
- Introducing the task.
- Providing learner's/collaborators with enough time to engage with the task.
- Debriefing and call for summary, clarifications and questions.
Within the Education community, it is pertinent to note that this community was created to bring teachers and Learners all over the world together to brainstorm on effective ways to teaching and learning for advancement. It is therefore important that all members of this community begin to see the need to synergize other than just making posts.
It is important that we members of this community would see the need to engage the blogs of each other with questions, suggestions and additions to add more value to the blog bearing in mind that contents hosted on this community has a way of representing the worth of our community.
Benefits of Collaborative Learning
The benefits that are derivable from collaborative learning include the following:
- Development of thinking abilities, oral communication.
- Improving self-management, and leadership skills of learners.
- Promotion of learner-faculty interaction.
- Increase in learner's retention, self-esteem, and responsibility.
- Exposure if learners to and an increase in understanding of diverse perspectives.
- Preparation of learners for real applications of concepts learnt.
Conclusions and Implications for Education-Hive Community
The adoption of the #hive initiative by the #education-hive would go a long way to showcase to the world the education-hive community and this would mean more onboarding and participation.
The millions of teachers and students yet to be reached would be easily reached by the education-hive community when our high quality posts are shared to Twitter and other users add value to the posts through their comments and engagements.
I will be glad to receive entries of comments in the section below. Feel free to link your posts or other posts that relate to this theme.
My Vision in @Education-hive Community
I have put in over seven years into educational researches, and I have discovered that it is a popular problem among research students to be able to construct their instruments for collection of data even when this is a major component for the success of the research. In the coming days, I would be sharing more research guides and tips for students and teachers. This is my way of supporting the @Steemiteducation and the #Education-Hive community.
I am your Research Assistant @Uyobong. We hope to meet again tomorrow for some helpful educational research tips. Feel free to use the comment section of this post to ask questions so we can interact the more.
