Hello teachers, students, and researchers, I am here again today, Monday, 30th March, 2020, to share a guide on how to improve pupils' attitude to learning Social Studies through research.
Social studies as a school subject as taught in Nigerian schools strongly emphasizes on the development of the affective domain that can guarantee the promotion of unity in diversity. The curriculum was designed to inculcate in pupils the ideal of values (honesty, integrity etc.), positive attitudes of togetherness, national consciousness, awareness, comradeship and cooperation despite diversities in race, desires, beliefs, aspirations, religion etc as boldly enshrined in the National Education Policy.
Social studies is interdisciplinary in composition and calls for the drafting of teachers from composite disciplines like Government, Geography, etc. This has heightened the plurality of instructional methods, unclear duties/roles and ambiguity of assignment that hampers an in-depth teaching of concepts, modes of thinking and analysis of contemporary issues. It therefore becomes necessary to see how much pupils are ready to accept the subject.
Social studies is meant to be very interesting as its application to daily living is quite tangible. In order to achieve this goal, pupils should be made to appreciate the subject. This will enhance their attitude and interest towards the subject.
I have put in over seven years into educational researches, and I have discovered that it is a popular problem among research students to be able to construct their instruments for collection of data even when this is a major component for the success of the research. In the coming days, I would be sharing more research guides and tips for students and teachers. This is my way of supporting the @Steemiteducation and the #Education-Hive community.
I decided to put below the following guide question for a researcher who is interested in working on a topic related to " Pupils' Attitude to Learning Social Studies".
