Good morning parents, teachers and students welcome to class and to my blog.
Today is Thursday, the 9th day in the month of April 2020. I would be exposing few stepsfrom the strategy I adopt to teach my pupils spelling. Believe me, those kids were a hard nut to crack and they almost made me lose hope of teaching them.
I had tried all the methods I knew could help improve their spelling accuracy but to no avail.
However, I discovered to my greatest shock that this strategy could work wonders. I mean I was marveled after repeating the strategy with another class in a different school. I no doubt helped improve the spelling accuracy of not just my pupils but that of students students in secondary school.
Owing to these success attempt, I could draw up an assumption that adopting this strategy which I tag spelling trick, could help improve the spelling accuracy of other pupils, students and teachers reading this post.
Here's the trick guidelines.
1.Write out about ten words on the board. Note the words should be two or three syllabic words for a start.
2.Pronounce the words and indicate the syllable on the words written both on the on the board and in your voice. (Stress the primary stress)
3.Ask the pupils to repeat the pronunciation of words after you. Watch out to ensure that all the pupils read those words.
4.Read and reread the words until you are satisfied that it has registered in their sub conscious.
5.Spell the words preferably, use letter sounds and not letter names to spell it. This would help the learners have a clue about thee letter of the alphabet that begins the word he is about reading.
6.If you've done that, bravo!!! You have almost got the learners to knowing not just the correct pronunciation of the word, but the spellings too.
As usual, every lesson needs to bee assessed or evaluated to ascertain whether the learners were able to assimilate the information. So this is where the spelling trick applies.
As a teacher, you understand your learners' learning style which is unique to them individually and collectively. Thus you should as a matter of fact adopt the strategy or trick that is convenient to the learners.
Example is as follows
Trick one 1
Wipe the board. Ask the pupils to write out at least 2 - 5 words which they had read and spelt some minutes ago.
Tip
Try as much as you can to ensure that the pupils are not under pressure or anxiety or unease because of the strokes they would be lashed should they not get them right. When the atmosphere in the class is tensed, it impedes learning. Hence, you've got to make it look like fun.
You would ease tension in the class if you can identify any pupil or students who wants to attempt rewriting those word again. Always encourage them at least for their boldness to approach(attempt) the answers.
