Adaku and Nkechi lived with their parents at Lagos Badagry. The schooled in Geonerate Girls college and usually trekked to school. Their parents were traders in the Lagos-Ikeja market. One night, while the two sisters were sleeping, they heard a noise from the apartment next to theirs. It was MrsAdamu’s voice. Her husband Adamu had traveled to Sokoto to buy goods from the Market because it’s cheaper there. Mrs. Adamu was shouting for help.
“Don’t go, Father. “Said Nkechi, the men may have guns. They’ll kill you. “You must go, father, Adaku countered her elder sister’s comment. ‘She is our neighbor and needs help.’ Mr and Mrs Ikokwu rushed out of the house and Adaku and Nkechi followed them. When they found Mrs. Adamu, she was crying.
“The thieves have stolen all my money, she said’ cried. I wish I had put it in the bank. Oh dear, what shall I do? They have stolen all my dresses, my husband’s expensive camera and my son’s records, too. Nkechi made a hot tea for Mrs Adamu as other neighbours in the yard came in and tried to comfort her too.
The next day, Nkechi took out some old wrappers and showed them to her mother. Nother we don’t ned these wrappers. Please , may I give them to Mrs Adamu? She said. Her mother said that that was a good Idea. When Mr. Ikokkwu returned that evening, he showed his family a new camera which he had bought for Mrs Adamu’s husband. Why do you waste money on that old woman? Said Adaku. It was her fault that the thieves stole her money. It is foolish to keep money in the house. “ I agree with you Adaku, ‘ said her father, ‘but all make mistakes sometimes.’
