Seems like forever since I brought out one of my Hive Power Up Day blog graphics (probably because it has been forever), but I figured it would be an awesome way to kick off the new year.
After I started dipping my toes back into the Hive community waters back in November, and when the Hive price seemed at an all time low, I decided to pull 500 HBD out of my savings and convert it to Hive.
I fully intended to participate in HivePUD on December 1st, but life decided to life again and before I knew it, the calendar said December 5th (or thereabouts).
But undeterred, I set a bunch of alarms on my phone so the same thing wouldn't happen for this month. And I suppose it's a bit serendipitous, starting the new year with a big powerup, and a new(ish, lol) resolve to start back on my Hive journey.
When I first started working at the shop I mentioned in my previous post back in November 2024, I thought it would be the perfect time to start blogging again. The owner was onboard with me having my laptop set up on the counter - she even offered to redo the setup so I could work on my computer in comfort. I declined her generous offer, as the counter was at a good height so that I could stand and type, and I thought it would be healthier for me to have a sort of standing desk.
A picture I took for a Christmas FB post for the shop. I added the fancy circle to show where my laptop goes when I haul it out of my backpack and switch it out for the shop's Chromebook cash register.
I wasn't wrong - it's great to stand at the counter and tap away at my keyboard. But as the temps dropped (in a place that only had a handful of space heaters), so did my ambition. Most days I huddled in my little office chair in front of one of the heaters, either reading books or doomscrolling on my phone. Oh, and playing mobile games - I downloaded an app ages ago that rewards you with occasional gift cards for accumulating points, so my brain convinced me that playing mindless games for hours on end was actually productive, because I scored a $25 Walmart card every month or so. 😆
I'd hate to actually do the math and see how many hours it takes to hit the payout point, because I'm pretty sure it would work out to something like a few pennies for each hour I play. If that. 🤦♀
Then the cold weather turned to warm, and with it another excuse (it's too hot to have my laptop in a place with no air conditioning). Even when we got an air conditioner set up and working well, it was still easier to while away my time on mostly nonsense stuff.
Now the shop is closed for the month of January (and there's the possibility it might be closed permanently - a story for another day), and I've decided to use this time off to get caught up on many things. Like unpacking stuff that still sits in "temporary" spots throughout the house, over a year later. And figuring out the prize distribution for those last HivePUD contests I did all those months ago. It's the time of the year for resolutions after all.
One of the ChatGPT graphics I created, then rejected, for the Montage FB page. For an entity that's supposed to be so smart, I could not, for the life of me, convince it to spell the words on the sign correctly. Ugh.
All of which is a very long-winded way of saying, Happy New Year, and Happy Hive Power Up Day to everyone.
