Today is a big day in Nigeria and every citizen is allowed to exercise their rights by voting for their preferred candidate for the next president of the country. Since the beginning of the year, there has been tension in the country as to who would be the next president, each political party started its campaign and gave the citizens a different manifesto just to get their votes. Today is the day Nigerians decided their fate for the next four years, the decision has been made today though we are yet to know whether our decisions are right or wrong we believe we've made the right choice today.
Election time in Nigeria is always a period where you don't know what will happen next in a few seconds, it is a time to be extra careful, and conscious and be on the lookout for any foul play, from the day of the election date announcement, we've been patiently waiting for this day with people getting ready their permanent voters card(PVC) to vote for their preferred candidate. Nigeria is a multi-party country but as many as the party, we only have three recognized parties which are the All Progressive Congress (APC), the people's democratic party (PDP), and the labor party (LP). The present government is being ruled by the all-progressive congress and they are willing to continue their reign by passing it to their next candidate while the other two parties too wanted to get into power with each one of them promising to change the state of the country.
This is the logo of the all-progressive congress, they believe they can sweep the nation clean with their broom and bring a better change.
Here is the logo of the People's democratic party, they believe they are a shield that keeps people protected under their umbrella and can bring a better life to the citizens.
And here we have the labor party, the family party that believes they can unite Nigerian irrespective of tribe and culture and bring all tribes together as one big family which would bring a better change to the country.
Nigerians have been left to make their choices and whatsoever we have decided today as a country will be with us for the next four years. Everyone that participated in the voting exercise today believes they have done the right thing and that they believe it's the solution to the present challenges we are facing in the country, in the past eight years we have seen and been through a lot because the country is confused. We no longer know nor understand what the government is doing it is as they are toiling with the lives of the citizens, they no longer listen to us neither did our voices count and everyone has had more than enough and with this desperation, everyone wanted a difference in government.
Nigeria is a blessed country but as blessed as she is bad governance is the order of the day, it is from frying pan to fire. Life hasn't been this harder before ever since I've come of age and since childhood, I've been hearing Nigeria will be better but we are not making moves to that better Nigeria we all wanted. In the preparation for this election, there has been hype about the price of petroleum and the change of currency which has left many businesses ruined because people can not transact their businesses all because the old notes are banned and the new ones aren't in circulation. Lots of complaints have gone up to our present leaders but they turn a deaf ear and the country continues to deteriorate, for a country that produces oil and exports oil to other nations to be selling #400 per liter to its citizens where the citizens have to queue from morning till night at an absurd price.
Today was given different hashtags with people's hopes so high that it's a dawning of a new day that is a new beginning for Nigeria, we can only pray and hope all this is true until the result of today's election is released. The wind of change is blowing, I can feel it, those are the words I've been hearing since morning and I wish all this become reality because Nigerians have suffered a lot in the past eight years we indeed deserve a break and hopefully move into the brighter future. We have decided our fate today I hope we are not dangling into another year of pain and endurance and asking ourselves have I done the right thing? Due to the high rate of the poverty level in the country, many people were bought into voting against their conscience just with a little amount of money and foodstuff which can nearly feed them a day but they had to succumb just to survive. We are a step closer to a better day as we decide on a historical beginning today.
