The number of death tolls are increasing every day as rescuers are recovering dead bodies on the basis due to lack of accessible roads to get to those in the remote areas. The disaster has left many homeless and hopeless after destroying houses, businesses and infrastructures worth billions of dollars.
I am so scared. What will we do if it rains
The deathly earthquake which struck Morocco on the early of Friday, left the country in tears due to number of people killed which became the highest disasters that would ever happened in the country. The earthquake led to the killing two thousand and eight hundred (2,800) people while over eight hundred and forty thousand (840,000) people seriously wounded who are currently receiving treatment in various medical centers and hospital, leaving thousands of people internally displaced. But according to Rescuers, the number of death toll has rised from the initial two thousand, eight hundred (2,800) to three thousand (3,000) people as at today.
It was a disaster and also a shock to see people still under the ground there. The army is doing [its] job to bring these people out of the ground but also, it’s very, very difficult to reach these places, so you can imagine that there is no food but also there’s no blankets or beds where people can sleep on
Roads to some devastated mountain villages still blocked
It is so difficult to predict the exact number of people killed as rescuers keeps recovery deaths bodies on daily basis which made the 2023 earthquake the most destructive and most terrified earthquake that ever happened. Meanwhile, the 1960 took near the western city of Agadir led to killing of twelve thousands (12,000) only and destruction of hundreds of buildings which was the highest earthquake destruction as at then. Great numbers of survivors as expressed disappointment over inability of government to respond and provide them with the necessary aids including foods and shade. Red Cross Society who provides First aids treatment and others services also appealed for some funds amount to over $110m in order to provide the needed assistance in Morocco victims.
They have nothing and the people are starving
People, including children, are setting up tents – not agencies, not government officials – but families gathered together, survivors helping each other. Some villages were accessed, but many, many have not received any aid, and we’ve seen helicopters going back and forth above these mountains to try to survey the situation.. We are seeking 100 million Swiss francs ($112m) to be able to deliver on the most pressing needs at this time, which include health, water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter relief items and basic needs
There are some villages that still have the dead buried under the rubble
Meanwhile, even as at today, there many villages with still number of deaths under rubbles but due to bad roads, the rescuers could not access them in order to bring them out while more effort has been put in those areas with great of victims mostly bigger communities. Also, most of these villages/villagers does not power neither or telephone network due to this incident which made it so difficult for rescuers to get to, so also to pull out the dead bodies under rubbles and bury them. They are at this point solicit for international interventions, and government should do anything possible to provide to the survivors.
