Samhain is traditionally seen as the end of the Celtic year and the beginning of the new year. It is the time of the crone, (the third and final aspect of the triple goddess) the time of death and rebirth and very poignant for our current times. We have been undergoing this huge transition and I for one am ready to let go of our old reality and rebirth our new.
For sure we still have a while to go, so as we prepare to let go of the light and enter into the dark phase (winter), we can take this opportunity to connect with our inner wisdom. The veil between the world we see and that which we do not see is at it’s thinnest tonight. So it is wonderful time to connect with our ancestors and spirit guides, and also to dream and create our visions for the world.
This evening me and my girls light a candle for my sister and our beautiful canine friend Bear who passed away in the summer. We shared happy memories and sang for them both. There were quite a few tears, but it felt good to share our stories and continue to express our love for them both.
It is really important to me, that my girls stay connected with the earth and the changing of the seasons. That we take time to honour those changes that happen on the land and within ourselves. So that they continue to recognize the many teachings that nature provides for us all.
Observation is so important, taking the time to witness the subtle changes all around. Recognizing the signs so that we can follow suit. We are about to head into winter, the trees are losing their leaves and preparing to focus on their root energy, just as we should. Now is the time to focus more on our energy travelling inwards, to internalize our creative life force.
It is the time of transformation, of letting go of the old and embracing the new! A new that we need to take the lead in creating. As we embrace this time of the year, we see it as an opportunity to let go of our outer self so that we can focus more on the inner. This is the time to plant the seeds sod our ideas and future direction, so that when the light phase returns again In the spring, we are ready for the rebirth.
Everything changes in life, we are continuously going through different stages, experiencing transitions, but it is important to remember that they are new opportunities to begin again. When we let go of this need to control, to hold onto things, life flows and we become healthier. We all know that blockages led to illness, that when we are stuck in our ways, stuck in certain patterns we become unbalanced.
Nature teaches us to embrace change and to embrace the dark and so in the end we are prepared for what is to come. Yes so much uncertainty awaits us, but use this time for inner exploration. For reconnecting with our intuitive selves, so that we can face our fears and face the darkness that resides within us all. We need to face them so that we can release them and be ready for the next phase of our lives. so that we are ready for what is yet to come!
Down through the years we have been fed so much misinformation, all with the purpose of disempowering us. Samhain is a perfect example of this, of how a time where we once celebrated the dark aspect of the year and of ourselves was changed into something that we were told to fear. The crone was changed into a hag or a witch and so many were persecuted. Women that were once honoured and respected were now being hunted and burned at the stake.
To this day, there is still a negative connotation attached to a witch, instead of recognizing that she was the healer, the midwife, the wise elder. This is how dangerous narratives can become and now is the time to remember this and to take the time to follow your gut feeling and not what we are being told is truth!
Remember that we intuitively know right from wrong, we just need to reconnect with our inner wisdom, and now is the perfect time to do so.
