I did not say Russia deactivated the S400. I said Russia had not activated them. In the week during which this war has continued I have not again heard from any of the sources I have consulted even one word about those systems again. Honestly, while I would only cite a source I felt was reliable, I am not on the ground, do not know those systems, and cannot state with certainty I know that this or that has happened regarding them. I am not pointing this out to argue with you regarding S400 systems, nor regarding Russia, or Iran.
I know that translation can be imperfect, and I do neither mean to insult you or criticize you. It is remarkable you post and converse in English so well. I wanted to point out there is a difference between not activating something that isn't operable until it is activated, and deactivating a system that has been operable to render it inoperable, because I think you may have misunderstood my statement and because of that may have erroneously assumed what I think about Russia, Iran, and their relationship.
Acquiring a system that is unable to be used until it has been activated makes little sense to me in this context. I certainly wouldn't buy defenses that were unable to be used upon my purchase, and their utility could be withheld by the seller. Neither do I think Russia would deactivate such system that was previously operable on the eve of war in which that system would be critical to Iran's defense, as that approaches an act of war, a terrible betrayal.
I, frankly, am left suspecting my source misled me, perhaps was misled themselves. This cautions me to be more careful to verify information, especially in the heat of war, and about technology I am not personally familiar with at all. The only thing I can do about that now is to clarify that I did not say Russia deactivated S400 systems, that had been in operable condition, it had sold to Iran on the eve of the US/Israeli attack. My understanding was that those systems had not been operable, and Russia had declined to activate them so they could be operable. Since both of those scenarios just don't make any sense to me, I think I was misled.
