It is verified that Gonzalo Lira, the Chilean-American journalist who had been held captive in a Ukrainian jail since May of last year, has passed away. The man was following the battle in Ukraine and was a producer and journalist who was quite active on YouTube. He had always been very critical of Zelensky and the US administration.
Lira was detained by the Ukrainian Security Service on suspicion of aiding the Russian special operation, according to reports from the Tass service. According to the Security Service, the journalist had been given bail, which he nonetheless violated by attempting to depart the country and seek political asylum in Hungary. Thus, Gonzalo Lira would have been imprisoned in Kharkov while he awaited trial.
The American State Department confirmed the death, and Tucker Carlson broke the news in the utter silence of the mainstream media about his son's torture and disregard by the US government for the only crime—according to his father—of voicing his opinions as a journalist.
Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, also voiced her thoughts on Lira's arrest and detention. Lira had invited the Chilean authorities and the journalist community in an official statement to demonstrate solidarity and raise their voices in favor of Lira's release. However, it didn't happen that way.
It has come to light that Lira had bilateral pneumonia, which was untreated for months by the guards at the prison where he was being held. The journalist was ultimately brought to the hospital in December. Thanks to a string of letters and emails from the journalist's father criticizing both the lack of transparency by the Ukrainian authorities and his son's serious health conditions, the American government would have been fully aware of the man's declining health.
The despot Zelensky bears the blame for this disaster, along with the assistance of a senile US president.
