In regards to the situation in Ukraine, it's been very hard to get reliable information. One look at the internet or television, and you're instantly bombarded with thousands of messages of mostly one sided information. If you're in Europe or the United States, it will be anti Putin rhetoric. If you're in Africa or Asia, it will be mostly anti west rhetoric. And the result is an online battle between massive propaganda machines.
However, what we always forget is, no matter what conflict or war it's about, the ordinary civilians are the real victims. They didn't ask to be put in this situation, and they've got no way of getting out of it themselves, as their leaders have their own plans in mind. In any case, I found the map on Wikipedia to be most reliable and up to date. And trust me, I'm not a huge fan of Wikipedia, as there are people there obsessed with stopping "Thought crimes". However, after following the progress for some days, for now they seem to be more accurate than other maps online. Less influenced by propaganda as they've got a more fail proof system of blocking harmful actors.
