We all had some in our lifes. Whether in our family, among our friends or colleagues, there's always one or two of them who just can't stand to lose. And when they do lose, they blame everything and everyone but themselves. This week two of them, both billionaires, showed just how bad they are at losing.

One of them is of course Donald Trump. I don't know if any hard-line Trump followers read my posts, but if they do, I'd like to ask if this week finally made you wake up to what a terrible person you've supported all this time. Even his own institutional supporters in the right wing media have finally turned their backs on this petulant man-child. Even if he wasn't involved in any race in person, Trump has unanimously been declared the biggest loser of the midterm elections. That's because his candidates, whether appointed and supported by him or copied his election-denying antics, lost big time. If there's any winner in these elections, and they're not over yet as votes are still counted and Georgia is going off on a runoff election in January again, it's democracy itself.
Democracy has won because the Trumpists lost. Democracy won because the polls predicted a "red wave" that didn't happen. You see, polls only interview "likely voters", and didn't reckon with the strong turnout of young voters; voters aged 18 - 29 skewed towards Democrats by a whopping 28 percent! And they are not counted among the "likely voters", which is why the red wave was prevented. Voters aged 45 and over still skew Republican of course, but not nearly in the numbers seen among the young Democratic base. Also, the same dynamic that won the Democrats the 2020 general elections once again played out: voters, especially the young ones, didn't so much vote for the Democratic Party, they turned out in droves to vote against Republicans and Trump.
Trump finally SNAPS, attacks Ron DeSantis in unhinged rant
Control of the House and Senate are still in the balance, and that in itself is a huge victory because the party in power normally loses the midterm elections, as everything bad is blamed on the party in in the White House. This time however, Republicans under Trump's anti-democracy tantrum have overplayed their hand. Some of the biggest Trumpists now claim that it's about time to tone down the Trump sycophancy, as it hurts the party's chances. They all know it. All but one: and that's Donald Trump himself. Republicans only big win was in Florida, where Ron DeSantis swept the floor with his adversary. That's not good news, as DeSantis is a much smarter authoritarian than Trump will ever be, but it was entertaining to see Trump's reaction to DeSantis' victory... Here's a snippet from the Palm Beach Post, released just a couple of hours ago:
Just two days after a state electoral sweep "for the ages," former President Donald Trump fired off an angry statement attacking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as "average," accusing him of "playing games," and referring to him with Trump's new nickname, "Ron DeSanctimonious."

The title of that article says it all: "Trump hit on DeSantis has Florida Republicans 'stuck in the middle' of escalating feud". In an interview Trump repeated his anti-democracy stance by outing a new version of the "heads I win, tails you lose" principle by saying, with regards to the outcome for the Republican candidates in the midterm elections: "If they win, I should get all the credit, if they lose, I shouldn't get blamed".
Trump: 'If they win, I should get all the credit, if they lose, I shouldn't get blamed'
Such a terrible man, such a worthless politician. Just watch the above linked short videos; they capture his essence very well. Especially the top video is worthwhile as it has a cute montage of reporters claiming that Trump is this election's biggest loser. So, after all the boasting his candidates lost, and there's still a realistic chance that the Democrats keep control of the Senate and if the Republicans take over the House, it'll be by a very small margin. The flip-side of this relatively good news is that still a lot of election deniers have won. Here are the bullet-points from Business Insider:
- More than 370 Republican candidates on the ballot denied or questioned the 2020 election results.
- Certain Republicans could have major impacts on certifying the 2024 election in battleground states.
- So far, at least 171 election deniers have won their races.
As they say: democracy is still on the ballot. Even more so if we turn our focus on that other sore loser this week: Elon Musk. After tweeting that "comedy is legal again" on the platform he now owns, he started suspending parody accounts that used his name. Musk has revealed himself to be a "free speech advocate" of the sort we've become used to on the political right and far right; speech is free as long as it's speech that I like. After he said how important Twitter is for a functioning democracy, and how he wanted Twitter to become "politically neutral", he tweeted that everyone should vote Republican... Yes, very neutral indeed. After he claimed that he didn't care about Twitter's finances, because it's just that important to him that free speech flourishes, he's done nothing but whine about how bad Twitter's finances are, and blames "activist groups" for chasing away big advertisers from the platform.
In the meantime, here's one example of how Elon's paid for blue check-marks plan goes bad fast: Spokesperson for pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly says they're in communication with Twitter to address the fake-but-verified Eli Lilly tweet that has been up for three hours and has 1,500 retweets and 10,000 likes. The tweet in question announced that insulin is now free... Hilarious, but yet another example of how dumb Elon's plan really is.
If men like these are role-models for millions of people, what does that say about society as a whole? What does it say that a compulsive liar can become president of America, the "leader of the free world", and a dumb fuck like Elon Musk can climb to the top of a so called meritocracy? These are serious questions which we all have to answer for ourselves...
