This is going to be a short post. I hope it will be anyway, as it's meant as a brief addendum to yesterdays post. I got some responses on that post that got me thinking that some of you believe that I'm in favor of government mandates in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, which I'm most certainly not...

The post, Novax Djocovid, was meant as a criticism on Novac Djocovic's stance on vaccines. It wasn't an endorsement of Australia's draconian measures in relation to the pandemic. As the world's number one tennis player, Djocovic has a lot of fans, myself included, and as such his voice carries a lot of weight, as anyone else with such a large and loyal audience. And although I have lot of admiration for him, he does have some strange and dangerous opinions on health and wellness. I'm not opposed to alternative medicine per se, but what should be clear to anyone, is that this field is full of quacks who sell snake oil, who're in it to make a lot of money. It amazes me how many individuals who criticize "Big Pharma" for only wanting to make money, often refuse to level the same criticism to these quacks. I wrote about Djocovic's strong belief in strict rituals during tournaments as a tool to get himself in the right mindset, to get in a flow. This was, and I didn't make that clear enough, to indicate that a strong belief in the beneficial effects, of anything at all, will often times have a positive effect. We're all acquainted with the placebo effect, and I'm sure that many of the alternative medicines work because they function as a placebo.
Djocovic takes this a step further, as he believes that not even the placebo is necessary: he believes that belief in itself is enough. Like I said in yesterday's post, he cried for three days straight, disappointed with himself, when he did need elbow surgery. Now, my position on the whole pandemic is quite simple: 1) the pandemic is real, 2) the vaccines aren't a giant plot to kill us or to implant nano-chips and 3) we could have been back to normal if only we shut down the entire world for a month, no traffic, no work except for the few needed to deliver food and medicine to our homes, with them all wearing masks. That's extreme and a dream, this could never have been, only in a terrible horror nightmare where we would all live in a one world government absolute dictatorship... Anyhow, Djocovic isn't helping, that's my opinion.
Back to the mandates. I'm against mandates, if that wasn't clear yet. Heck, we don't even need traffic lights (just look at the linked video). And I'm sick and tired, as we all should be, of governments using crises of all kinds to increase their power over us while limiting our freedoms, something I've spent many posts on. We wouldn't need rules if we would all act in the best interests of the community. But that's not the world we live in, unfortunately. In fact we live in the exact opposite, in a world where we take care of "number one" first and foremost. I'm all for freedom, but not for individual freedom. That's maybe hard to understand for some, but I promise you it makes perfect sense. It's easy, freedom is easy and default when you're alone on an island. But how free are you really on your own? See? Freedom only makes sense in society, not as an individual. And in society, freedom is maximized if we all have consideration for each other. If your freedom takes the form of "I won't wear a mask, because I won't bow down to government 'mandates'", then you're quite simply against freedom. You don't wear a mask for yourself and you don't wear a mask for the government; you wear it out of consideration for the people around you. And if you can't take that minimal effort, but instead grandstand about your heroism for standing up against "the government", well, you've lost me.
In short, yes, Australia is going totalitarian, like some other countries as well, and I'm against that. But Djocovic, who I admire a lot, is no hero in this instance. Especially as he's only there for two or three weeks, while the Australian citizens are stuck with their government. A slap in the face, like I said yesterday. I hope this answers some questions, and let me close by saying sorry that I wasn't clear enough...
Craziest intersection with no traffic light
