An American Trump supporter called in at a British radio show I frequently listen to last year. This caller tried to give an alternative perspective on Trump than the one used by the liberal radio host, and it came down to this: yes, Trump is a criminal and a liar, but at least he's honest about it.

The radio host, James O'Brian, started laughing at this American caller. "So, Trump is an honest criminal, and that's why you and many other Americans support him? And Joe Biden is equally criminal, but he covers it up like any other professional politician?" O'Brian then challenged the caller to provide just one example of Joe Biden's criminal behavior; the caller couldn't provide any. I thought this caller exemplified rather effectively what I personally believe to be true about Trumpists: they all know he's a criminal and a bald-faced liar, but choose to ignore that. Or they even admire him more because of it, as it somehow in their minds adds to his persona as their strong leader.
I'm continuously baffled by the continued support for this man as day after day he proves to have no morals or abide by any ethical or professional standards. Remember how he lambasted a State Department employee who had helped set up Hillary Clinton's private email server for taking the Fifth Amendment? His exact words were: "The mob takes the Fifth. If you're innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?" Before that, during his 2016 campaign, he attacked several of his opponents for the same issue. According to Trump, taking the Fifth Amendment is a sure sign you did something wrong; just look at the little compilation linked below this paragraph. Now, I ask Trump supporters, what do we make of the fact that Trump plead the 5th nearly 450 times?
All the Times Trump Bashed the Fifth Amendment
We can be sure that Trump's hardcore supporters will not see the hypocrisy, or they'll see it and applaud it. They'll say he uses "their" own weapons against them, increasing even more his status as their manly hero. But that doesn't explain the countless times he's used the Fifth Amendment before his political career even began, like during his divorce from his first wive Ivana in 1990 in order to avoid answering questions about adultery; he used this tool to avoid self-incrimination more than 90 times in that occasion. (source). According to the Litigation Tracker last updated on 17 August, 2022, there are currently 22 pending criminal and civil cases against The Donald. Trump probably is the most sued president in US history.
These facts alone should raise red flags and should make you question if this person is fit to lead the most powerful nation in the world. And here's where we come to the point of this post: many of Trump's supporters believe that the recent raid of his home in Florida was a politically motivated attack in order to prevent him from running for president in 2024. Of all the conspiracy theories I've heard in my life, this one ranks right up there at the top of the most far-fetched. I mean, I know memories are short in the public geist, but have we all forgotten that Biden got more votes than any other presidential candidate in US history in his campaign against Trump? That was not because sleepy Joe was so damn popular. People didn't vote for Biden, but they came out in droves to vote against Trump. We should be scared of Trump because of a whole list of other reasons, but not, at least as things stand now, as a presidential candidate in 2024. The FBI raid, as shocking as it was, shouldn't surprise anyone who takes into account Trump's lawsuit-ridden past.
Let's talk about Trump, Biden, and popularity....
