Well, I’m here. The various circles of hell have all closed in on me, and I’m surrounded on all sides by The Devil’s macabre intent. Perhaps I deserve it, for thinking myself foolish enough to embark upon such a quest.
In any case; I have learned a single lesson at this stage of the journey. Generate less images. Far less images.
That part is a success, and I’ve only got one small batch of pictures to review, and I know indeed that my final selection exists within these!
Admittedly, the first image I thought looked nice as a thumbnail isn’t going to be the one I want to use. There’s no face for one; and it doesn’t convey a lot of thing that are really devil like, other than the robes (which are elaborate) and the dark colours involved in the creation of the image.
This next one is a little bit more like what I’d expect to see as a representation of a Devil. We’ve got horns, dark colours, dramatic lighting (and goddess, those robes again!) which make for an enchanting and speculative image overall.
It isn’t perfect, and I demand to see more.
This, again is slightly more like what I’d expect to see in a representation of The Devil. There’s cold, empty (literally) calculating eyes; horns, a suggestive pentagram; and of course the chaos that sits beyond her.
Unfortunately, I want more than this. I want things to be completely and truly chaotic, and perhaps even a little bit more abstract than this image.
This next image brings along some more detail. The eyes are entirely red which I like but the border around the image is something that is not entirely welcome, but probably something that I am able to forgive.
In any case, the strange, body-less hand at the centre of the image probably makes this one quite unsuitable for further investigation. As a result, I’ll be moving on.
I LOVE this next image. The devil is androgenous and mysterious enough to take on several different meanings. I particularly enjoy the wisp of fire on the right hand side of the image, next to the face; and the all encompassing wings, which create a natural halo. I think I might just have the final image with this one.
Though, it is a close contest with this image. The face is slightly less devilish in this image, and is rather innocently depicted among the horns, tangled nests of bone and what looks like twisted antlers, but it is just missing the overall moodiness and sense of “threat” conveyed by the prior image.
I will be going with the second to last image as the representation of the devil. As per normal, I’ll need to make some slight adjustments and tweaks; and now that I am getting closer and closer to the end of the Major Arcana, it will be time to start thinking about borders and frames for the cards.
(as well as a backside)
