BEING PRODUCTIVE & PREPARING TO HELP A FRIEND
Bright and early at work today when my mind is crisp and fresh, like the morning weather. I find that, like most people, I'm most productive at that time. Usually, again like most people, I do unimportant things during this window of high cognitive performance, lol. Not today. I have been getting on with my most important tasks - one of which is writing about it here 😂. Gotta get paid yo.
Talking of getting paid, I got practically interviewed by my mother yesterday about "how is it exactly that you make money?" It was pretty funny actually, at some point she was more confused that when we started. I tried to explain to her that my sources of income are decentralised. That is to say, I don't earn all of my income from just one place like a job. Rather, they come from dozens of sources, and all add up to something meaningful. There is no one single point of failure so I can't "get fired" in the traditionally sense of the word.
I think she was able to wrap her head around some of the stuff in the end, but it's hard for someone who's been brought up under one system to understand the paradigm shift we're currently going through. It's this same problem that my mum had that the people at the bank, and government, have with my tax assessments. I'm lucky that I don't have to apply for any benefits or loans or need any substantial amount of credit. I'd be refused immediately. I probably have the worst "credit in the UK.
A friend of mine lost his job a few weeks ago and has been struggling to get another one. He's got some interviews lined up in the near future but you never know. There must be dozens of other people lined up for the same jobs, some of who are probably more qualified and experienced than my friend. We will be meeting on Monday to have a chat about his options and I will show him some of the decentralised options. Not necessarily blogging or videos or whatever, but even online retail.
There was a time in the past when I needed some extra income, and I took to selling on eBay and Amazon. I would spend an entire day visiting charity shops picking up good quality items for extremely cheap and would list them on eBay for multiples, sometimes 10x, of my cost. I wasn't making millions doing this, but I bet I made more than the average UK wage per month! Also, it was quite a bit of fun. I still have my eBay and Amazon selling accounts so if I were ever to need them, I wouldn't hesitate to do so. I still sell random things on eBay, especially old gadgets, just to squeeze the remaining value out of them rather than let them rust and rot on my shelve.
There's also Fiverr.com. Is that still a thing? I used to do gigs on there and made some good change actually. If you have a good skill, especially if it's unique, you can make a full time living on Fiverr. That could be a good one for my friend to have a look at while waiting to get another job. You never know, he may decide never to go back to a "job" again after our meeting :)
Peace & Love,
Adé
