As I was walking around our subdivision this morning, I saw these leaves. A 30-year old flashback memories came back into my mind.
During our elementary days, there was what we call general cleaning day. Our teacher asked us to bring cleaning materials and the common denominator to us students were these leaves.
We called them, is-is leaves. Is-is literally means to scratch. We were using these to scratch our wooden desks to remove dirt and erase writtings. Then to remove the dusts after scratching, we will wipe it with wet rugs.
These leaves are also used to clean cooking equipments. Because of its roughness (similar to sandpaper) it can remove dirts that are sticked to desks, cooking materials, etc. The more mature the leaves are the more rough they are.
The name may be different in your language. I will be very glad seeing your comment below. What do you call these leaves?
