π₯ AI Didn't Break the Media β It Broke the Monopoly
So I made a thing.
I've been chewing on this idea for a while now and I finally sat down and turned it into a proper video. Well, I say proper β it's me rambling into a script and then having Yoda read it out. As you do.
But honestly, I think there's something in this one. And I think you lot will get it more than most.
π‘ Here's the short version
Everyone's losing their minds about AI-generated misinformation. Fake news everywhere. Can't trust anything. The sky is falling.
And yeah β I understand the panic. But I think they're looking at it completely wrong.
Because the way I see it, the information game has just been decentralised.
Sound familiar?
ποΈ The Old Guard
For decades, a tiny number of people controlled what the rest of us saw and believed. They were the gatekeepers. The legacy media. The centralised authority on "truth."
And we just⦠trusted them. Because what else were we going to do?
Now AI comes along and suddenly everyone can generate a convincing story. And yes β that's chaotic. But it also means the old guard can't monopolise the narrative anymore. Nobody believes a bloody thing they see β and honestly?
That might be the healthiest thing that's happened to public discourse in a very long time.
π If You're on Hive, You Already Get This
You already know what happens when you take power away from centralised systems and hand it to everyone.
It's messy at first. It's confusing.
But it's better. Because it forces people to think for themselves.
π¬ The Video
I put it all into a video. Give it a watch β I'd genuinely love to know what you think.
π Full Script β The Great Unbelieving
What if I told you that fake news is the best thing that's ever happened to us?
You'd think I'd lost the plot, right? And I get it. I do.
You turn on the news about the war in Iran and within five minutes you've seen three different stories. This general is dead. No he's not. This city has fallen. No it hasn't. Footage that looks completely real turns out to be generated. Footage that looks generated turns out to be real.
It's got to the point where you genuinely cannot tell what's happening anymore.
And most people look at that and say:
"This is terrifying. This is the end of truth. AI has broken everything."
But here's where I disagree. And I know this sounds mad. But stay with me for a moment.
β‘ It Was Always Like This
My argument is simple.
It was always like this. The only difference is who was doing it.
Think about it. Before AI β before the internet even β your understanding of the world came from a handful of sources. A few newspapers. A few television channels. A few very powerful people who decided:
- β What you saw
- β What you heard
- β What you didn't
And we trusted them. Not because they earned it. But because there was no alternative. They were the only game in town.
𧱠The System, Not the Story
I'm not going to sit here and list every lie we've ever been told. You've seen the stories. You know the history.
Weapons that didn't exist. Wars that didn't need to happen. Scandals that ran for decades before anyone said a word.
The point isn't any single lie.
The point is the system.
A small number of people had almost total control over what the rest of us believed. And we let them β because we didn't know any better.
π Then Came AI
Now along comes AI. And suddenly everyone can generate a convincing story. Every Tom, Dick and Harry with a laptop can produce something that looks and sounds real.
And the reaction from most people is fear. Understandably. Because the volume of nonsense has gone through the roof.
But here's what I think they're missing:
The real change isn't that there's more fake information.
The real change is that nobody believes anything anymore.
And that, I would argue, is progress.
π§ Discernment > Obedience
| When you... | You become... |
|---|---|
| Believe everything from one source | Controllable |
| Believe nothing from any source | Forced to think |
You're forced to question. You're forced to develop something that most of us never really needed before:
Discernment.
And yes β some people won't develop discernment. Some people will just switch off entirely. They'll tune out, stop caring, stop following the news altogether.
And honestly? That might be the second-best outcome. Because a person who believes nothing is harder to manipulate than a person who believes everything they're told.
π― The Monopoly on Untruth
So the way I see it:
AI hasn't broken truth. It's broken the monopoly on untruth.
The same people who controlled the narrative for decades now have to compete with millions of voices. And in that noise, their authority dissolves. Not because they've been exposed β but because the game has changed.
You can't be the only liar in the room when everyone's lying.
And what's left when no one believes anyone?
Discernment. Critical thinking. The habit of asking:
- Wait β is that actually true?
- Who benefits from me believing this?
- What do I actually know versus what have I been **told****?
That's not a crisis. That's an education.
π The Upgrade We've Been Waiting For
So next time someone tells you AI is destroying truth β consider the possibility that truth was already in trouble. And that maybe, just maybe, the chaos we're seeing now is what it looks like when the old system loses its grip.
It's messy. It's confusing. It's uncomfortable.
But I'll take uncomfortable truth over comfortable lies. Every single time.
And here's the thing that gives me hope:
There is a generation growing up right now that will never know what it's like to just believe what they're told. They'll question everything. Not out of cynicism β but because that's the world they were born into.
And a world full of people who think before they believe?
That's not a dystopia. That's the upgrade we've been waiting for.
π¬ Over to You
So yeah. That's where my head's at. I know it's a spicy take but I genuinely believe it.
We spend so much time worrying about the chaos that we forget to ask what the chaos is replacing. And when you really look at what it's replacing β a system where a handful of people told the rest of us what to think β suddenly the chaos doesn't look so bad.
Agree? Disagree? Think I've completely lost it? Drop it in the comments. That's what we're here for.
And if you enjoyed this β give it a share. The more people thinking about this stuff, the better. That's literally the whole point.
Cheers βοΈ
