The tongue is a very small organ of the body located inside our mouth that must be very well controlled in order to use it for blessing and not for cursing.
If someone uses it for evil, he will eat the same fruit and if he uses it for good, his harvest will be rich and abundant.
The apostle Peter teaches us, saying:
For:
He who wants to love life
And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips speak no guile. 1 Peter 3:10 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)
With the tongue we bless God and the Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God.
In James the word says:
but no man can tame the tongue, which is an evil that cannot be bridled, full of deadly poison. With it we bless God and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so: does any fountain send forth out of the same mouth sweet and bitter water? James 3:8-11 NKJV1960
We can be blessed or cursed by the way we speak. When we bless, we speak well of; when we curse, we speak evil of. You and I can either bless our life and bring joy or we can curse it and bring sadness into our being because of the words that come out of our mouth.
We must be more conscious about what comes out of our mouth more than what others may say about us. There is a well of good things within us, and one of those things is joy. We can bring it up and splash it out of us through proper speech.
The Bible says that no man can tame the tongue of man, so we need God's help, and plenty of it, to keep the tongue under control.
In James 3:6, we read that: ...And the tongue is a fire, a world of wickedness. The tongue is set among our members, and it defiles the whole body
It is amazing to stop and realize all the problems that this tiny member of the body has created in our lives. The tongue can ruin a relationship. It can cause depression. It can hurt a friendship or hurt someone we barely know through rudeness.
In verse 8 of James 3 it goes on to say that the tongue is...an evil that cannot be bridled, full of deadly poison. Wow! Has your joy been poisoned?
If so, think about this Scripture: The words of a talebearer are as soft morsels, and pierce even to the bowels. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and he that loveth it shall eat the fruits thereof. (Proverbs 18:21)
Both Scriptures express, in part, the message I am trying to convey in this publication. Words can help or hurt us and the people we get involved with.
