I was on the road before 5am yesterday morning on my way to town to pickup grain. When I left the farm it was cold but there was only a couple dots of snow around. As I drove towards town it began to snow and once I got to the first brewery it was snowing hard.
It was really weird driving south into the snow. I dropped the 5 empty barrels and loaded up the 3 that were full. The light one went in the bed of the truck until the next brewery.
The city streets were slick as snot already and I was quite happy to have 4 wheel drive. I combined the 2 barrels at the second brewery into one barrel and after sliding the barrel out of the truck I strapped them all down on the trailer for the drive home.
I made it home right around 6am and we were out for our soak not long after. About 5 miles south of the farm I drove out of the snow and once getting home there was nothing falling at all.
The boys had no school for the holiday and I kept my eye on the doppler for a while. I was watching the SRTMC site that has the traffic cameras in Spokane and I was watching the deluge of snow falling all over the city. The storm sat over the city for a good part of the day and dropped a few inches. We got maybe a tenth of an inch of snow.
With it not snowing on the farm I was able to get out and get the grain dumped into the sheep pen. I let the birds out right after and they piled into the pen to peruse the grain piles.
I managed to get our old bed loaded up into the truck and strapped down. It left a nice large open space in the floor of our bedroom.
With the snow tapering on the north side of the city I was able to head out to pick up our new mattress. I loaded the boys up and we headed to Denver Mattress. After dumping the old mattress and box spring onto their pile for recycling I backed up to the loading dock.
The bed frame in the box and the mattress in the purple roll.
We headed home and drove out of the snow around Mead. Once home I backed the truck as close to the deck as I could and began to unload. The mattress was nice and easy to haul in the house.
The frame was a serious pain in the ass, back, and arms. After a lot of heavy lifting, pushing, and sliding I got the thing into the bedroom.
I got it out of the box, the legs put on it and the end stay bracket installed. It plugged into the wall and has USB pods on each side, small under bed lights, is adjustable, and has massage on head and foot. The thing is stupidly heavy, about 250 pounds, and seriously awkward until it is laying flat.
The mattress slid out of the sleeve and after hacking off the excess plastic from each end I unrolled it on the bed frame.
It didn't take very long at all for it to fill with air and regain its normal shape and size. I got the protector, sheets, and then our blankets all on and then sat down on the bed to rest for a little bit as I was super worked.
I was super wore and went out to soak for a bit. Moving the old mattress out and the new one in by myself was rather hard and my body was bitching at me quite loudly. The soaking helped some but my body was still pretty sore.
Once dried I jumped into bed to see how it felt and was quite happy. Super supportive but giving in just the right places.
I practiced on my mandolin for about 30 minutes while the boys were down at Grammy's.
After got home from work and we had checked out the new bed setup I went out and hooked the trailer up for this morning's grain run.
We were soaking a lot earlier so we could be out and then in our new bed.
I slept like normal and am pretty sure it will take a week or two for my body to get used to the new bed. I was out of the house before 5am again this morning picking up grain. It was -15F windchill while I was in town and 10F ambient. Today is supposed to be sub zero wind chills as well. The warm up is expected by next Monday. The boys have school today, I have laundry to do, empty the grain barrels, and mando practice.
