I ended up making it to town yesterday an hour later than normal to pickup grain. It was really light out and I am not that used to making my grain runs when it is not dark. I dropped empties at the first before heading to pickup at the other brewery.
The stacks were lit with the ambient light and not the glow of the colored lights from the night time.
I loaded 4 barrels onto the trailer and one into the truck then headed for home. Town was rather quiet and I am super happy that the grain was ready yesterday and not today since Bloomsday run is happening and downtown is shut down to most all traffic. It would have made getting the grain a major pain.
As soon as I got home I unloaded the grain since I needed to go pickup the bees a bit later. The sheep got the 4 barrel from the trailer dumped for them.
The barrel from the truck got emptied into the wheelbarrow for a bit later.
I got out to soak while the clouds worked on building up heavier with the oncoming storm.
As it began to rain I got the chicks let out for the day and now have to have double feeders and waterers since they are getting big fast.
The wheelbarrow of grain got thrown into the chick's area for them to eat and scratch through.
The other half of the barrel got dumped in the chickens area and they jumped on the pile right away.
A little after 9am I headed to North 40 to pickup my two bee packages. I love these plastic packages as they give me a great tool for catching swarms since the end pops open on them.
They got a spot on the front seat for the ride home.
Lol and ugg. $4.27/gallon.
At home it had begun to rain for a good part of the day and I wasn't going to put the bees in their hives during it so I set both packages in the garden shed on the bee table for the night. Today I will get them in the hives since it is nice and sunny.
On my way in and out of the farm in the morning I saw that they had left a bunch of debris strewn across the end of our road from the car accident. There was glass and plastic from the car as they drug it along which was not cleaned up. I took the broom out and swept it all off the road so none of us get a flat tire.
Under a tree by the highway is a bunch of daffodils that I picked a bunch of for . I plan to go and dig up a bunch of them to plant in the yard.
It was raining but the mail delivered which had my new seeds I ordered. I headed out right away to get them put in the ground. I got the basil and cucumbers planted in the main garden.
Then I finished the rows in the pole garden. 29 summer dance, 51 sweet slice, and 49 sunseed spots. The area used to be strictly pole beans but they take over so much that I can't really have all beans, it become too dense to pick easily.
Mid afternoon it had stopped raining and after getting the fire going in the fire pit for the afternoon I took the tomato starts out and got them planted in the row along with seeding a few spots in between. I don't have any cherry started but I always end up with tons of volunteers so they will be my cherry tomatoes for the year.
I got beefallo burgers on to grill so we could get dinner done.
We got to soak in the sunset light as the storm clouds all moved off to the east.
When I went to put the chicks in their hut was glowing red from the heat lamp and they were all packed in. They don't have much longer that they will all fit in there.
We were up rather late last night and I actually slept in a bit this morning.
It is nice and sunny today and I will be getting the bees in their hives, planting the last row in the garden, installing the a/c in the window, tilling the last area, and grilling again this evening.
