The metaverse and all kinds of virtual worlds are coming and more and more in a way that they will be integrated in my life as well probably. With digital meetings where you can also integrate your notes into what our avatar is making, and how hybrid working (half working from home, and other half working from the office) will present itself over the next couple of months.
The one thing most people are so afraid of is that the metaverse will take over our normal lives. That in the meta verse you can be the extended version of yourself, while in the real life this is all a facade. Honestly, I guess for most people it won't be that different compared to their normal lives in keeping up the appearances, but this time just digital.
But when thinking about this question of the week from the community the first question that has to come to mind is 'what you define spirituality' and that is different for everyone.
To me spirituality is all about perception and perception has everything to do with how you think about something. If you are more religious then your perception will often lean more in a divine kind of setting, and when you are more of a scientist your perception will lean more into 'caused by influences' kind of setting, if you ask me.
Remember, this is only my own opinion. And when I look more at more perspective of spirituality this is often more feeling about what your hormones make of it in your brain. If other words, if you 'see' something than your brain and hormonal balance will project the 'feeling' that comes along with that, and then it all doesn't sound so spiritual anymore. I would love to think about it different, but this is what my brain makes of all of this. Science.
I was watching this series from Will Smith the other evening called 'Welcome to Earth' where Will Smith investigates all kinds of natural elements in a fun way. In one episode he dives dow into the deep ocean with a special submarine and a marine biologist to 1000 meters (3000 feet) where all special kinds of species pop up, which you would normally would not see. The rainbow jellyfish below is one of these things he saw.

Now what you have to realize first is that 1000 meters below sealevel it is completely pitchblack dark. No sunlight reaches this depth and because of this, the species which live here have totally adapted to this. The funny thing which is also mentioned is that when you look at the light spectrum blue is the last color you will see when the rest is being blocked out. So at a certain point you see Will Smith who is wearing a red shirt, literally look like he is wearing a blue shirt. Perception.
At the bottom of the sea you find these rainbow flashing jellyfish which only have the rainbow color when you shine a light on it. And there it is.
Our perception or spirituality is because of what kind of of technology we throw at it. 300 years ago we would have thought that putting a telephone line across the sea, or going to the moon would be divine intervention or just shearly impossible.
But technology changes our perception of things, and maybe also changes our hormones and the way we think with that. Do they go hand in hand? At some points they do.
Do I need technology to feel spiritual? When I am gazing over the ocean with a sunset and the sound of the waves, my hormones make me feel damn happy though, I don't need any technology for that. But can technology and spitituality live together? I guess in the times we are lives now they surely can. They don't always need each other, but they sure as hell blend in nicely.
Because we are the ones shining the light on the jellyfish making it into a rainbow. The other creatures who live at the bottom of the sea don't even have the visual ability to actually see rainbow colors, because they don't need them in the dark.
Missing abilities because you don't need them. Think about that. We create those abilities.
