The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success. — Paramahansa Yogananda
The world has fallen into chaos, leaders now pointing their fingers on who to blame and some people giving in to anarchy. But this is not our game, we look beyond the future and handle our primitive minds to both benefit us and others.
Embrace Sustainability
While the government pans the camera back into agriculture now that we have a global financial crisis, it is still not a guarrantee of food security for each countrymen.
In industrial/commercial farming, farm inputs is the driving force for top-level decisions, whether to stop farming or to downsize the operations. With the sky-high costs, it will eventually make the farmers raise the price of their produce causing a further domino effect on the supply and demand of commodities and basic needs.
Also, with the risk of rightsizing, no job is secure now. Gardening is not the only solution, but it will surely cut the monthly expenses at home and potentially stretching the limited budget.
Food Security
While some still have faith over their job security or bank accounts, it is also good to trust in agriculture, though it isn't easy to trust in agriculture.
Before, we talked about sustainability for healthier options, but now it is more about sustenance, but it is $sustenance* that is free from toxic chemicals. Food security begins at home, whether it is a home garden or a large homestead.
It might need an adjustment to type of available food choices, but the solution is to be creative in making recipes with whatever is available.
Garden Updates
As I continued on fixing the old raised beds, volunteers begin to thrive and some of the crops of the previous season has self sown. This saved me from spending more in this season.
Last week, I was able to move one raised bed closer to the main garden. Luckily, the twigs and leaves that were added last December 2021 decomposed into finer organic matter. A lot of native worms also made the raised beds their home, helping in converting bigger solids into garden soil.
The new season will welcome string beans, luffa, squash, cucumber, corn, chilis, and more! It's great that the weather has calmed down a bit with just the right amount of rain—not too much please.
I started spraying rice water and LABS today, then some Marigold infusion by next week. This will introduce more absorbable nutrients for the plants to grow faster while also helping the organic matter to decompose faster.
The two orchards and the farm have slowly recovered. The fruit trees, bananas, and other crops began to blossom again just in time before the dry season comes to an end.
In August until the end of the year, severe weather disturbances are expected from time to time, buy I hope the crops grow fast to survive the next flooding.
