ecoTrain QOTW 9.9: "DO WE NEED A GURU OR TEACHER IN ORDER TO GROW SPIRITUALLY?"
I say yes you can do it without a guru, but your guru helps you achieve your goal in a quick time.
The Guru reaches out to you with the teachings told by the Supreme Lord, either by coming himself or by sending his supremely knowledgeable person. That person is responsible for restoring your belief in religion through true knowledge and, by explaining the path of devotion according to the scriptures that pave the way for attaining God. Therefore, he is instrumental in helping you increase your state of spirituality.
A true guru is one who has attained oneness with the all-pervading in the attainment of self-control. Such a person can help a seeker on his inner journey towards perfection.
One blind cannot show the way to another blind. Only a guru who knows God can instruct others about God in the right way. One needs such a master to regain his divinity. The one who sincerely follows the master becomes like him, because the master helps his disciple to rise to his own level."
The teacher-disciple relationship is the highest expression of friendship, because it is based on unconditional divine love and wisdom. It is the most elevated and pure of all relations. The Guru is an awakened God, who is awakening the dormant God within the disciple." How beautiful isn’t it?
By kindness and deep insight, a master sees God suffering in persons who are physically, mentally, and spiritually lacking, and therefore considers helping them as his pleasurable dharma. Guru is the best giver among all human beings. Like God, his generosity knows no bounds.
To be successful in divine pursuit, as is the case in every aspect of life, it is essential to obey divine laws. To understand the secular knowledge available in school, you have to learn from a teacher who knows that subject. Similarly, in order to understand spiritual facts, it is necessary to have a God-realized guru or spiritual teacher.
When you are walking through the valley of life blind, stumbling in the dark, you need the help of someone who can see. You need a guru. Following an enlightened person is the only way to come out of the chaos in the world. You will never find true happiness and freedom before you will meet a true Guru.
Call out to God with your heart. When you make God believe you yearn only for Him, He sends your Guru to you, who will teach you how to know God. Only he who knows God can teach others to know Him. When I found such a person, then I understood God does not teach in a mystical way, but through elevated souls.
God is invisible, but is visible through the wisdom and spiritual experiences of those who are in constant contact with him. There can be many teachers in one’s life, but there is only one teacher. A divine law is fulfilled in the teacher-disciple relationship, as shown in the life of Jesus when he accepted John the Baptist as his teacher.
One cannot become a guru merely by thinking, ‘I am the guru. Jesus said that God guides the true Guru only, when he said that "no man can come to me without the Father who sent me." Jesus gave all the credit to the divine power. If a teacher is egoless, then you should know that only God lives in the body-temple of that guru; And when you get identified with such a guru, then you identify yourself with God. Jesus used to tell his disciples over and over again, "He who will accept me will not accept me but the one who sent me."
The Guru who himself accepts the worship of the people is only the priest of his ego. To find out whether a path is true, see what kind of master follows it, whether its behavior makes it seem like God directs it. A Guru who is not blessed by God cannot show the path to God, no matter how many followers he has.
All churches have done good work, but religious superstition makes humans spiritually ignorant and flawless. Many times, I saw huge crowds praising God, but God was as far away from their consciousness as the stars in the sky. No one can learn all about spirituality by merely going to church, temple or a mosque. The right path to freedom lies in yoga, in scientific self-analysis, and in following that which has crossed the forest of theology and can lead you to a safe God.
A teacher appointed by God to assist people in answering their deepest prayers is no ordinary teacher; rather, he is that very human whom God directs to convey speech, mind, and spirituality in order to attract and guide lost souls back to their supreme abode. In the beginning, we come across many teachers through our vague desire to know the truth. But a guru is the living image of scriptural truth and the messenger of liberation appointed by God in response to a devotee’s constant pleas for freedom from materialistic desires.

When you sit in the company of your guru in a peaceful environment, the company of saints and devotion towards the messengers of God, destroys the illusion of Maya, the temptation. Mere thoughts of saints help you remove the veil of Maya. We remove Maya, the temptation, from our system, and we communicate with the Messenger of God in mental harmony rather than through physical contact.
In the mind of a true guru, there is no desire to rule over the hearts of others, but to awaken the consciousness of God in their consciousness. Ordinary love is selfish, full of desires and satisfactions, and born of profound ignorance. There is no condition, no limit, no change in divine love. The pillaging touch of holy love perpetuates the fickleness of the human heart. "
God speaks to the world only through his enlightened devotees. Therefore, the wisest thing to do is to be in contact with the will of a guru whom God has sent to you in response to the call of your Spirit. The self-proclaimed guru is not a guru, so the guru is the one whom God asks others to bring back to him. When there is a slight spiritual desire, God sends books and teachers to inspire you more, and when your desire is strong, he sends a master.
There are teachers who always expect their followers to dance to their tunes, ready to obey immediately; And if they don’t, the teachers get angry. But a spiritual teacher, who knows God and is actually a master, does not think of himself as a teacher at all. He sees God in every person, and does not mind if some disciples disregard His wishes.
The friendship between guru and disciple is eternal. When a disciple accepts the Guru’s training, there is complete surrender, no compulsion. When this kind of love develops between the teacher and the disciple, then the disciple does not have the desire to manipulate the master, nor does the master want to exert his dominion over the disciple.
Finally, I am not saying that you can't grow spirituality within yourself on your own but trust me a genuine guru tells you how to attain your goal in quick time. The best of logic and judgment drive their relationship forward; There is no love like this anywhere.
