A type of Solitary Bee, they use plant foliage to make homes, also known as Leafcutter Bees. This seems to be a seasonal occurrence, as last year these same kind of Bees showed up and moved into some holes made by another kind of Bee. I saw them flying around and when I got closer I saw them landing and entering a hole that a wood boring Bee made. No idea where the Carpenter Bee is but now these Resin Bees are making great use of the hole. They are a solitary Bee similar to the Mason Bees I raise.
They did not show any interest in using the bee boards near by, they really wanted to old an old Carpenter Bee home. I set up my video camera and got some footage of them flying around. I move the camera later on to a different position to give a new angle. Its tough where they are located to get good video unfortunately. And they only stick around for a few weeks before disappearing until the next year.
I could tell these are not Mason Bees because of their shape, these Bees have a larger abdomen. Also the Mason Bees are done by this time of year so seeing these makes me think they are something different.
They seem to be related to the Leaf cutting Bee as well, though I did not see them bring any leaf cuttings into their home. But I have seen signs of cut leaves around so maybe they snuck them in there when I was not looking.
I saw two of them flying around though each seemed to have its own hole it was working on. I get some video where both of them can be seen.
Using my Panasonic GH3 and Olympus lenses I capture video of these bees. I use a Shure Lenshopper microphone to pick up the sound.
