They are coming up nicely, it has now shot up some secondary stalks. When I planted them in early spring they only shot up single stalks for the most part so thats a good sign of progress to me. The leaves are fun to touch, they are tiny and have a very soft feel to them. We are just going to let them grow, not going to eat them or pick them. Right now it needs all the sunlight it can get, so the stalks need to grow and convert that into energy for the plant to get stronger. This is their first year in the ground so I want them to build up as much energy as possible. Next year they should be even bigger and taller than me in the near future.
In the beginning I did not give them enough water, I think some dyed back. But now I make sure to keep the rows well watered. And happy to see them putting out new growth since I increased their watering. Im not going to trim any off as I want the plant to have the best chance to get through the winter and send up growth up in the spring.
I am running strings along some of the rows as they grow very long and then bend over on themselves. Four rows get watering just about every other day. Luckily it rained recently so it helps me to not need to water them so often.
By my count I have around sixteen plants in the rows. And then another dozen or so in other spots. We are just going to let them grow. And make sure they get enough water. I think over time they will be delicious.
