EcoDesigns Apprenticeship Welcome ("Makara") Party
In Cameroon, its customary that when an individual wants to learn a trade, they bring food and/or drinks to the workshop where they want to learn the trade for everyone to eat and/or drink. This activity is known as Makara Party; meaning welcome party.
EcoDesigns, a textile recycling and fashion designing hub that is training women and girls for free isn't left out from this tradition. Yesterday, we welcomed Rahimatu, a trainee who has been with us for one month.
She brought corn-fufu and vegetables with some fried fish for her Makara party that started with a word of prayer from her. This was followed by the sharing of the welcome party meal. After eating the delicious meal, Mr. Green (Founder/Executive Director of ) as well as the Directors of training, Mrs. Notburga and Mrs. Justine together with the other apprentices of ecodesigns welcome Rahimatu to ecoDesigns and encouraged her to be committed in acquiring the skill.
Rahimatu, a mother of one pledged to be passionate and committed as she looks forward to becoming and ecoFashion Designer in 12 months.
