Chaos before order!
Whoever had to move houses knows very well how everything first becomes a huge chaotic mess before order appears. Now imagine doing that, but then to another country. It brings even more chaos! Even though I had my crafting and paint supplies all sorted neatly in boxes a few months ago, I still constantly have to open everything and double-check what's where and what needs to be listed now vs what I still need in the next two months. Let's not forget about all the items that aren't sorted in boxes but came out of 3 suitcases because of the winter/summer swap before winter arrived. Every year it's the same, winter clothes go into the suitcases as soon as summer arrives and vice versa.
No need for the winter items anymore
Although the winter is not fully gone because after a very sunny week with temperatures around 23 degrees, it's now just cold again. I even need my winter coat again! Ouch! I almost threw that out a week ago, lol. Glad I didn't. But what I did was make sure that every winter item that we didn't wear or barely wore, was given to the Ukrainian refugees weeks ago. We gave away 7 huge bags filled with winter clothes as well as coats and a few pairs of shoes. You'd think that that means we had plenty of orders again, well, not really. I have a hard time throwing away good items even though I didn't wear them that year. This year it's different though because I sure don't want our 6 suitcases to be filled with winter clothes that we may not even need in Spain as we're going to an area where the winters are soft. So this time, it was much easier to part with the clothes/coats and shoes.
Selling is going better than expected
For as long as we live in Budapest, selling items online has been a pain. It never went smooth, fast, or according to price expectations. I have to admit that I developed some sort of hate for it even though it was one of my favorite things to do years ago: selling items for good prices. Thankfully, this time things are going smooth so far. With a few bumps on the road where people expect you to bring stuff to a busy road so they can take it in their car as a sort of drive-through for just 3 bucks with me carrying the heavy thing, it's going well. I mean, I admit that I rather throw something in the bin than agree on requests like that. I'm constantly taking pictures, listing items and hearing the FB ping during the day. Often me having to go to google translate to answer the people even though I list in English only groups. But I'll just do it as in the end I want the things gone.
Today was a lucrative day
First, a nice couple came, the lady had contacted me without haggling one bit that she wanted to have 6 of my items and hoped to pick them up today. I was happily surprised (yet first a bit suspicious as this seemed too good to be true, lol) but when we went back and forward, she eventually bought even more that I hadn't listed yet and I gave her some freebies as well. I wish I had met these people a few years ago. Lovely couple! So this was nice, it gave us more space as well as some extra budget for the emigration.
Not long after, a guy who already bought something weeks ago came to pick up our fryer and we agreed on a few more sales for when we leave. Nice guy, good chat as well, but once he was gone my head was exploding. All this excitement, I suck that all in and my head just explodes at some point. It's the same with anger or sadness, I take it all in, I bet lovely knows what I mean here. I was happy that we had some quiet for an hour after this.
Last visitor: the landlord
With most furniture from our landlord, we luckily don't have to worry about most bigger items, besides two sofas a big desk, an office chair, and a tv. We knew that he'd probably want them so we had to arrange a meeting asap so we could see if we could come to an agreement. Today was the day that he also came to visit. We hadn't seen him in I think at least 8 months, so of course, this was a lot of chatter about a lot of things as well as my boyfriend sharing his excitement. Although I managed to pull back a bit in the office, I still heard the constant loud chatter and my head felt like it was soon to explode. Thankfully, all items are sold to him and now we're only due this month's rent and the rest will be added to our budget instead of paying the last month. This is great, especially as he also bought two other items that he will pay to us on top of that rent.
Test packing
Soon we will have to do a test run on packing all these suitcases because I really feel my boyfriend is underestimating the size and weight of the items he has to take with him to have a workplace. I speak from experience btw, every time we travel the same thing happens, he says "I don't care about all that stuff, I only need 2 trousers and 2 shirts, etc" and every time when it comes down to the actual packing, I'm right and it doesn't fit or he has 5x more than he thinks he will take with him. So this time, I'm not going to wait until the last minute and we have to do an actual test run on packing to see how we divide the weight so I can adapt to that with selling items. We also have the luxury can send a box (or more than one) to our friend in Spain who already has a lot of our items we couldn't take with us back then, so he offered to send it there if needed. But if I can avoid that, that's better because it will add to the costs, while the suitcases are all booked and paid for already.
Our whole life, once again in suitcases. This time we will take a few more than when we arrived and have two weeks' accommodation. Let's see how this works out!
