When it comes to Korean culture it always use to be fashion moves flows like water, flowing from one country to another, and somehow we all get touched by it without even noticing. And honestly, Korean fashion has been doing that to me for a long while now. It’s like one day I was just watching a k-drama for fun, and before I knew it, I was checking where the lead actor bought his jacket or why every K-pop star’s outfit looks like it walked out from the future.
Growing up as an adult with different like and wants, but my parents always told me, “Don’t follow every trend you see, wear what makes you comfortable and respectful.” But now I’m older and I see fashion differently. Korean fashion didn’t just impress me because it looks fine or flashy, but because it somehow mixes confidence with simplicity. You see baggy jeans, oversized sweaters, clean sneakers, and you’re like… this is simple. But when they wear it, it suddenly looks like something special. My mom would laugh and say, “It’s not the clothes, it’s the spirit inside the person wearing them.” And truly, I feel that.
When I see K-pop idols dressing in those bold, sharp, stylish outfits, it makes me think about how fashion can be a language too. They are young boys and girls, dancing and sweating on stage, yet their clothes speak almost louder than the performance. I feel inspired sometimes, even though I might not have the money to buy all those big designer brands. But Korean fashion teaches me something I didn’t learn in school: style is not about expensive, it’s about expression.
One thing I really admire is how Korean designers are rising globally. These people don’t wait for approval. They just create, mix traditional patterns with modern street vibes, and boom everyone starts copying it. I think that boldness is what my parents wanted me to have in life. Not necessarily in clothes, but in how I carry myself.
I try some of these styles sometimes because I love to, it maybe not be perfect matches, sometimes colors don’t even go well, but who cares? Fashion is supposed to be fun, not stressful. I think that’s the whole beauty of this Korean wave… it reminds us that style is personal, creative, and a little bit rebellious too.
