Looking at the current generation (well, I'm quite old in terms of being a drama lover, ha ha ha), there are so many different opinions and perspectives, or types of drama viewers. Some watch dramas because they like the actresses, some like them because of the genre, some like them because of the plot, and some are just random and don't really know who the actors are.
There are too many disputes between factions. Some people won't watch certain dramas because they dislike or hate the actors. Well, I have one or two actors whose dramas I avoid watching, but I don't have any specific reasons such as hatred or anything like that. I just instinctively don't watch dramas starring those actors. One of them is Song Joong Ki.Previously, there was only one Song Joong Ki drama that I watched, namely The Innocent Man, which was released in 2012.
Then, from that year until now, there have been many dramas and films starring him, but I have always managed to avoid them. It's not because he's not handsome or because his acting isn't good. Obviously, Song Joong Ki has qualities that should not be underestimated. It's just that I avoid them. Then came 2025 and a melodrama titled My Youth.
This 12-episode drama stars Song Joong Ki as Sunwoo Hae and Chun Woo Hee as Seong Je Yeon.
The story begins with a handsome, quiet man named Sunwoo Hae who lives his life as if hiding from the world. Woo Hae is a flower seller who is actually a former child actor who was very famous. Due to a scandal involving Woo Hae's parents, he withdrew from the entertainment world and lived as an ordinary person. One day, Je Yeon, a beautiful woman who works at an agency and serves as an artist manager, came to Woo Hae's place to ask him to return to the showbiz world.
The two of them have unfinished business from the past. Both Woo Hae and Je Yeon were each other's first love. This reunion brings an interesting story. Until one day, Woo Hae's life is threatened by a deadly disease.
- Sunwoo Hae (Song Joong Ki)
Joong Ki has always been known for playing strong characters, so My Youth is something new for him as he plays a calm character. And in my opinion, Sunwoo Hae played by Joong Ki is very good. I can accept every little emotion implied by the actor. As a man who grew up without a father figure and was forced to mature early due to circumstances, Sunwoo Hae has become someone who doesn't expect much from life. He is also someone who is tired of hating and doesn't want to hold grudges. But what is unique is that, with his calm character, the people who have hurt him become wary and respect him in a polite manner.
- Seon Je Yeon (Chun Woo Hee)
Growing up as a smart girl at school did not make her educational journey smooth until the end. She only graduated from secondary school, but her career is good thanks to her diligence and intelligence. She is also loyal when she likes someone. This is proven by the fact that even though they were separated for a long time, she still liked Sunwoo Hae when they met again. Chun Woo Hee is one of my favourite actresses because she is a good actress and her face is not the typical beautiful type like other Korean actresses.
If you need a drama recommendation to fill your free time with a light theme and melodrama genre, you must add My Youth to your list because the cinematography is also beautiful. All the characters play their roles well and in the right proportions.Thank you for reading my review. See you in the next one.
